Hey guys, so I work for a GM ADI which is the accessory distributor for GM dealers and a little while ago there was a GM Performance meeting where representatives got to see new products for new vehicles. Unfortunately I did not get to go however one of our sales reps did and he said that GM has a turbo upgrade in the works and he got to test drive their prototype. I don't have much information but it should be for the 1.4T and will be GM Parts available through your dealer. I don't know price point or what you'll actually be getting however it's said to be released in the spring. I'm predicting next summer for availability however I will keep you guys updated as I get anymore info. Just nice to see GM realizing there is a demand for our cars. Apparently there will also be some sort of suspension upgrade as well.

Yes, it'll probably be a little pricey as it will retain GM warranties and it'll have to be bought and installed through a dealer or authorized GM person. However if it does come through it will be a huge advancement for GM. Like I said our rep physically sat in and drove a sonic with this upgrade. It's said to be released in the spring but next summer wouldn't surprise me if it makes it at all. GM isn't going to release anything that they don't have numbers for, haven't vigorously tested, have fit and function perfect and can't warranty 100%. This is the same reasons guys like DDMWorks takes time to develop new products, they aren't going to release something just to get it out there, they are going to back it up.
The factory turbo with exhaust manifold i can buy for around $600.So with that in mind see what a upgraded one costs.Plus i would assume programing will be needed for sure.I would think they would offer just a tune.Tuning is a very effective power increase on this motor.Really with no ill effects if done correctly.I just do not see GM offering anything that would exceed the Max TQ rateing for the auto and manual trans.And a new turbo would do that.But just a tuning upgrade would not.With TQ power targets set at trans TQ rated limits.A new turbo set at Trans TQ rated limits makes no sense to me.

Former HHR SS GMTU Owner. Unless I misunderstand the upgrade is just a flash. Shouldn't need to replace the MAPS. $1500 is an absurd thought. If just a flash, perhaps $200 just to make it worthwhile for GM.
Also have started HPTuning my car. Nice! No fueling or timing yet.
