Way too expensive! If you are going to do the mod, you can do the custom pod easily.
I am about to pull the trigger here, going with VDO black face gauges, volts, water temp, oil pressure in the pod, then I will sweat bullets while I replicate the boost gauge install done elsewhere here on the forum. Already worried about screwing up the hole drilling of the left dash panel.
Oh almost forgot going to buy a new upper tray to make the pod.

You'll be fine drilling into the dash...I literally put my steering wheel down as far as I could then got out my drill with hole saw attachment and went to town, 30 seconds and your done.

I tried to get my local speed shop to bring one in for me to try but they said if I for any reason had to return it I'd have to pay the 15% restock for them to send it back to autometer.

Still undecided on brand of gauges. The Cobalt boost gauge in the dash looks like GM put it there. It is however, pricey compared to others. Can't seem to find that gauge( Cobalt) in oil pressure, water temp, volts. So what are others using for the "perfect" factory look in their Sonic.

I'm sung the cobalt meter, just like you said it looks like "original" equipment.

This thread had some great ideas.
Remember you can also use small sections of 2" pipe to create gauge holders. Also, check Ebay for people parting out wrecked sonics to find the upper dash part for cheap.
I think I would go with VDO vision series gauges and use a blue LED for backlighting. Or try to find some better matching blue/green ones.

Any idea how the backlighting works? Is the field flooded with blue lamp installed or just the numbers ????

The vdo vision series is backlit, only the numbers light up whatever color light you have and the needle is orange/red. The vdo ****pit series is "side lit", the light will come from the sides in whatever color to light the face of the gauge

Um. How do you figure? What gauges in the car have the light shining on them from the side or front? The illumination will be much dimmer overall, too.
The vision series will look the best IMO. Trust me, I've owned both types. Here's a pic from my old Jetta:

The only lit gauge on my RS is the info pod. At night it appears as flooded blue light. Are other models different?

What about the giant tachometer?
Mine is backlit with turquoise numbers and an orange needle. That's what I'd be trying to match the look of.

Haha big tach what big tach, guess I am blind. Alway look at the pod section. You are correct. I have got to quit thinking about this and order the parts.

I agree drop them a little bit for appearance. I want to check out if the tray is level front to back or slight slope. I plan on have a slight angle down to be in line with driver eye.
Also desired to use the cobalt gauges in the pod and turbo gauge. Just waiting to designate the funds. Too many hobbies
