Tennessee doesn't get much snow often but when it did snow last year my Sonic did just fine.

When Kentucky had that small ice storm in like December of 2012 I got out of the driveway and my car slowly slid all the way down the hill and I was stuck.. so I didi t want to leave it in the road and I no lie me and my bro pushed my car off to the side of the road so no one hit it and it was there for 3 days till the ice melted

I only use snow tires in the fronts and stock hankooks in the rear, you can get a nice power slide if you do it right. Lol Sonic handles great in the winter.

I understand why you only use snow tires for the front, but that is not the safest thing to do. You will never get you car moving through the snow without proper tires in the front (snow tires front only), but you will not travel safely down the road with factory tires in the rear or tires wore beyond their use full life. If you had to swerve to avoid an accident, debris, or people the front will get grip, but your back end is going to slide uncontrollably. Yes the stabilitrac works quite well, but with different tires front to rear it will not have the grip it needs to work properly to keep the car safely in control.

Had a Day in the Snow

I got surprised by a snow storm on a trip between IA and MN this morning. The RS actually did pretty well. I was scared ****less because I had stock tires. Just minimal slipping. Watched a truck in front of me nearly lose it at one point. I guess that's the benefit of front wheel over rear wheel drive.

However, I did end up packing up the undercarriage with ice. I got to my destination and used the parking brake...bad idea. The brake was frozen in place after my visit. A quick back off with a crow bar did the trick for the time being. I'll have to bring it in to see if there's any permanent damage.

Anybody plan on using their car in the winter? I'll be keeping mine in the garage while driving my Silverado in the winter.

I drive my RS in the winter. Only had one near accident last year but that was my fault. I was going way to fast when I tried to take a turn. Thank goodness no damage.

I bought mine in February this year, so she got to see a decent amount of snow time. Not as good as my heavier previous hatch, but decent enough.

We had snow here in northeast pa and my sonic witch is a 1.8 5 speed sedan did very well even with my 18's on

It's an econobox commuter, of course most of us are. Hell, I wouldn't keep anything but a classic in the garage over winter. Porsche or a Bimmer? A good set of snow tires and I'd drive it.

Yes, I live in Dallas but I lived in Chicago for over 15 years.

we got snow on the grass but not really any on the roads here yet, kind of anxious to play around with it and get familiar with this vehicle in the snow.

Prior to the 2014RS 6M i had a big ole jeep wrangler that would go through any snow so I'm hoping that I'm not too disappointed with the handling in the snow.

I have found that the traction control works
Best if you don't baby it. Drive the car
Like you stole it and the TC digs in and
Goes. Even @ icy stop lights. No joke.
Don't try to not spin the tires. Just stomp
On it and let the TC do it's thing. I tried this

Apparently you never drove a 97 Camry. My wife had one when we were dating. That was the worst car I've ever drivin in the snow. Worse than my mothers mustang cobra.
