A little off subject. Tire height for the stock Sonic is like 25 inches. I think I read 25.1 and I wonder how tall a tire will still clear strut/suspension areas. Anybody got taller tires on?
My winters are at 25.7 inches and I have no issues, even with Eibachs...reduces my gap and I actually like the look
Good to know thanks. I have some snows from another car around 26 inches tall. I didn't know if a whole inch taller would clear the struts.
Wheel Fitment Gurus! Help me with my math!
Hey guys, so I'm starting to do some serious consideration of the wheels and tires I want to run in the spring. I've found Rims I like, and have done the math using the calculator, I'm just hoping to get insight and approval that this all makes sense and could work.
We'll start here:
These are the rims I'm interested in:

And these are the specs:

Now obviously, I'll need to run an adapter for the new bolt pattern, so here is my math including the slimmest adapter I could buy from Motorsport Tech:

Now, going over to Motorsport Tech, this is the adapter I have set up (I'm using a cruse, because they don't list the sonic, but as far as I'm aware its the same hub spacing (correct me if I'm wrong)):

Now the only thing I couldn't figure out was what to choose for the stud size. I'm not sure what this means, or what I should be choosing. This is the list they give on Motorsport Tech, and I'd love if someone could tell me the right choice:

Now after all this is said and done, there are a few things to note:
1. I will likely have to shave down the stock studs in order to clear the new rim, since the adapter is less than 25mm. If I do shave off the 6mm necessary, will I still be able to remount my stock LTZ rim for my winter tires?
2. Clearance appears to be tight. Maybe too tight? It seems like this could just make it (I am lowered on Eibach springs) but I really need some pro recommendation of whether or not these would be likely to rub on a daily basis?
3. I have gone with 205/50/17 because thats what I currently run for my winter rims, and it keeps my odometer on point. If I move down to a 45 or 40, my odometer would be off, but would I decrease my chance of rubbing? If so that might be worth the discrepancy on the odometer.
So that's everything as of right now, and I'm really looking for confirmation/advice/alternative approaches to running this setup. I really want a 5 spoke rim with deep red lip, so it seems going to a different bolt pattern is really my only option to get the look I want (barring spending LOTS more money on one off custom rims) but if anyone has a suggestion for a rim very similar to this, that would make my life easier in terms of mounting, I'm all for that as well.
WOO - long post. If you've made it through this and think you can help, I will reward you with many internets.... maybe all of them... maybe.
For the stud size you will want to run the same as stock so you won't have to buy new lug nuts..we are 12x1.5, for the tires you could run 215/45/17 without issue, they are almost near perfect match to the 205/50.
Great, glad to know the stud size. But wouldn't I have a higher chance of clearance issues with the extra width involved with 215s vs 205s?
its literally 5 mm on either side, and even there it depends on the tire makers sidewall, now if you were going 235, 245 then I would be really check the numbers down to a T...which is what I had to do before taking the plunge.
What are your thoughts on shaving the studs? Would it have any detrimental effect on remounting my LTZ wheels in the winter?
I will respond for laboursmith and say what you are proposing is outside of my experience, so I have no thoughts.

Sorry about spelling your name wrong, that's the Canadian in me adding U's to stuff.

These look like Work Meister S1/SSR SP1 replicas.
There are actually quite a few different types of these replicas on the market. Try to aim for one that's not multilug as you'll at least have a CHANCE (not making any promises) that the wheels will have the spaces that allow you to not cut the stock studs. (Although I'm not making any promises, I'll have to say that you'll have a fairly good chance of getting an adapter friendly set with this style of wheel.)
