For clarification, I added some arrows pointing to the "springs" or whatever you want to call them that hold the airbag on. This is, of course, a view from the front of the wheel, but those are what you want to pry on with your tool of choice to release the airbag. IIRC, you need to pull the airbag away from the wheel while you are releasing the clamps.

When the bag gets released it basically falls out. I did not have to touch it

Maybe so. I just remember it being very easy to remove. I don't remember exactly how I did it. I'm surprised that you described it as a "royal pita."

The difference is the that the Sonic (LT, anyway) wheel was rubber, whereas the Cruze is leather.

I spent longer pissing with the air bag then removing and reinstalling the wheel

New update, F chevy and their 50 Torx bolt. On the sonic rs 2020 its literally stripping from everything ive tried and im babying it as much as i could. I had even tried a impact wrench bc i thought i was just weak or wasnt holding the wheel tight enough.
Will update when I get it out. Im throwing a Grant QR on
