GM Credit Card Redemption Allowance Lowered on Sonic :-(

Hey all,

I currently have a GM credit card with a fair amount of earnings saved up on it. Today I received a flyer in the mail from the GM card people outlining the redemption limits on 2012 vehicles. You can only redeem $500 max on the Sonic. That is the only GM vehicle with such a low redemption allowance. Every other car or truck gets at least $1000 off. If I recall correctly, in the past you could even get a whole $1000 off the Aveo. And here all this time I was banking on getting a grand off on a Sonic. This stinks. I will be straight up honest. Part of the reason why I was considering a Sonic was because of that extra bonus money. But if I could now get a thousand off of a base Cruze with more or less the same options, I guess I'll have to think long and hard about that now.

In 2005 I bought a new Chevy 1500 Silverado. About a year earlier I saw the future purchase coming and signed up for a GM card. We used it for everything during the year and accumulated about $1000 off a new 2005 GM vehicle.

When I bought the truck the salesman asked me for the card and called a special number he had. He said that depending on current incentives I could be automatically awarded more points off a GM vehicle. Mind you I bought this truck over Memorial day weekend of 05. Gas had just gone up and truck sales were stagnant. Much to my surprise I was given an additional 1500 points (dollars) towards a new GM vehicle. With $2500 off a new truck I was quite excited. In the end the truck stickered for $31,500 and I paid $21,500 for it. I work for a GM supplier so I got and additional amount off and the owner of the dealership kid's went to the same school my wife teaches at. He gave us a smoking deal. This is for a fully loaded LS crew cab, very nice truck.

So don't give up, keep charging and paying off that card. When you buy that new Sonic hopefully you'll get the same bonus points I did.

GM MARKETING ARSEHOLES - Can't Find Their Butt!!!

Typical CLUELESS GM MARKETING DEPT. When I sold my 2001 Caddy ElDo with 95K miles on it in 2005 I had a credit of $3,500 on my GM credit card but IT DID NOT APPLY to the purchase of a Saturn!!! Feature that!!! GM had a Death Wish about the rather nice Saturn!!! After receiving the "No Saturn" credit news, I was resolved to buy a Rice Burner, but the ghost of my UAW daddy would not let me pull the trigger. So I bought the cheapest GM car I could buy: 2005 Chevy Cobalt, made in Lordstown, Ohio by UAW members. It had auto tranny, CD player and air conditioning, roll-down windows and no other fancy features.

Today, after 135K wonderful miles on this fire engine red beauty (nice lines, easy on the eyes, a real girl-getter!), I am happy with my decision. But I am still of the opinion that the GM MARKETING ARSEHOLES at the Renaissance Center on the Detroit River at the foot of Woodward Avenue are not capable of finding their butt with two hands!
