Siri without MyLink radio

My sonic didn't come with the MyLink radio and I've been pretty bummed about it, even going so far as to asking my Dealer if I could buy a MyLink radio and have it installed. So today I made a discovery that REALLY excited me, and I thought might help someone else out too.

If you hit the call button and say "voice" it will connect to your iPhone and start Siri. It's probably not as slick as the MyLink system, but it WORKS. I am really happy that I can have the advertised Siri functionality without the MyLink radio that I can't get.

How come you skipped on the MyLink initially?

I didn't know it existed. I just saw the commercial with the girl using siri seamlessly and thought that was a feature of the sonic.

Don't be bummed about it, man. The Sonic without the MyLink comes with a pretty nice stock stereo if you ask me. And it has buttons on it. Buttons are much more reliable than a touch screen. Feel a little nostalgia coming on? You can throw in a CD whereas the MyLink owners cannot. There are pros and cons to each if you ask me. 50/50.

Oh yea, you saved yourself some $$$, too. Always a great thing.

Yah but it's pretty nice having all the CDs on my iphone and having it connect blue tooth to my radio and off I go. With that being said you are in a good spot to drop your own double din touch that can be customized a lot more

For the last 3 weeks I've been disappointed because I thought I couldn't get it because I didn't have the MyLink system. Now that I know I can do siri with my system I couldn't be happier!

Gotcha. I was under the impression that you wanted the MyLink system not just the Siri integration. Good stuff!

I love Chevy MyLink. It has been great to have. I really haven't taken advantage of the Siri integration, but I will need to look into using that.

just curious, do you know if you have to use the onstar minutes, to use that feature?

I have the mylink and for whatever reason when I push the talk button on the wheel, it just brings up my phone book on my touch screen? On my 2012 LT w/out mylink if I pushed the button a voice came on and said "ready", at which point you could use the various commands. Little disappointed and hope someone here can shed a little light for me?

You have to hold the button on the wheel for a couple seconds for voice activation.
