Storage Compartment

I have yet to find a good use of the square storage compartment on top of the dash. Seems pointless since it's not private. What do you guys store up there if anything? I would like to put a mount to hold my phone up there somehow. Any ideas on a dash mount for a phone. My phone doesn't support the BringGo app so I like to use Google Navigation on my phone, plus I might try the torque app eventually. Just a random thought, looking for good ideas.

That's the perfect spot for a boost gauge. We need a vendor to produce a gauge pod that replaces the dash pocket up top there. I seen one on the Cruz that was all built up for sema or something like that. Looks sick! And dissent interfere with visibility at all

I agree, that pocket isn't really useful for anything, I've put some knicknacks up there and I take a turn fast and boom they're up and out and on the floor. Only way I can really see using it would be to glue/velcro things down in there, in which case why bother making it a pocket instead of just flat dashboard. Gauge mount, cell phone mount, something like that, would make a lot of sense.

I set my ez pass there when im on road trips, some people put gps there, mine wont stick tho lol that's it tho really. a 3 guage pod would be badass right there!!

I put the deposit slips and envelopes for my weekly bank deposits, along with a couple pens and a coaster to use as a writing surface. Of course my USB drive is there too.

Just to be clear, we're talking about the little tray above the dash and not the upper glove box, right?

I've never put anything up there, and I don't plan to start. I'm not a big fan of having stuff go flying whenever I make a turn.

I don't know about everybody else, but I wouldn't put a phone mount up there. Mine does not like to sit in direct sunlight; it overheats, drains the battery, and dies.

Found a use for the storage area on top of the dash. Bought a pretty nice universal mount and a weighted dash mount. The weighted dash mount barely fits in the space and I had to squeeze it in a bit. I like the use of the space and now I have a place to mount my phone. Especially when using google navigation. Here are the phone mount and dash mount I used.

I'm going to try it out. My phone will only be in the car when I'm in there and I'm pretty sure if it's 120 degrees I'll have the A/C going so I'm not too worried about the heat. But yeah if you were to leave your device in the car all the time I could see a problem.

The two pockets on either side of the cntr console that are deep enough to fit my hands in but leaves my phone sticking out no matter how I fit it in there. I was hoping a representative from Chevrolet would come out and say "well, we originally designed them specifically for this..." but that hasent happened yet. I'm of the belief that they were intended as A/C vents but funding fell through leaving us with cheap looking rectangular boxes next to snazzy throwback turbine looking things. So, failed attempt at ductwork anyone? Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions and advice? Fill me in. Thanks!

Right now I have a Garmin-type silicone dash mount with my phone's car dock suction-cupped to it. Works okay but the phone is a far reach away.
I think the worst part about those cubby holes to the sides of the center stack and the top-o'-the-dash tray is that there are no flat surfaces - the up-top tray has ridges so you can't put a suction cup type mount there. I tried sticking my suction cup phone mount to the sides of the cubby holes, but their sides aren't flat, there's a bevel/taper/hump or something that prevents the suction cup from sitting flat and gaining purchase...I tried!
I'm thinking about asking a friend with $$, time, and a 3D printer to whip something up for me...ah, if only...

I use the recessed area to hold my Escort radar detector. When not in use, I place a ball cap over it to protect from excessive heat, and to keep it partially hidden.
