power steering issue due to radio theft

So my issue started when someone broke into my car and stole my nav system. They cut the wires instead of unplugging it. Now I have A 500$ deductable so I nvr reported it to insurance company. Got a wireharness from junkyard and spliced it to the cut wires behind the stereo. Now my power steering shut off intermittently only for a few seconds. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the power steering module. Hasn't has an issue for the past 2 months till I put in an 8" navi system... Now my power steering won't work even with stock stereo in. The power steering light is on but if I hit a bump the power steering works till I try and turn. Could the radio wireharness interfere with the power steering? I think I did a pretty goof job splicing it and don't think any wires are loose or touching or showing at all.... Any thoughts? 2012 sonic 1.8 sedan. Thanks

Sounds like a broken/loose wire to the electric power steering. When it makes a connection PS comes back and then goes away when the connection opens.

Check the code, it will probably help track down which section of wires are bad.

Just a possibility, but the radio has a communication wire or two that goes between all the modules in the car. If this communication line is damaged it could possibly cause your issue.

Ok so I took it back to the dealer and apparently the aftermarket headunit is shortcircuting the steering column. Is this possible? I have put the stock headunjt back in and it still didn't work. I have had this headunit in for a couple of months and just recently got this issue after washing my car... But they are saying because the wiring was cut when someone broke in my car and stole the nav system it's no longer covered under warranty.any help appreciated.

Option 1 Try another dealership.
Option 2 if you got a police report. Send it through your insurance.

I took it to a different dealer and they reset the computer in the car.my issue has been non-existent for about a month I have kept my 8" touch screen in and just yesterday the power steering shut off. Didn't work all day. Soon as I put in stock stereo the power steering came back. What can I do to determine if this isn't a coincidence? And if it truely is the aftermarket radio, what can I do to make it work? I have the wireharness. I have the can bus. A fuse relay
And all the adapters for everything except onstar. Any help appreciated. Btw with the wireharness/can bus there are a few wires that go nowhere. Marked "ant, parking, rem,x" and one not marked blue with a crimped on connected ready to plug into something.

Btw I have had a buddy of mine who works at a audio shop redo all my wires with solder and shrink wrap professionally. So I'm sure nothing from the stock wireharness is showing/touching.

Leave the stock radio in for 2-3 months or till it does it again.

And if it truely is the aftermarket radio, what can I do to make it work?

Send it out for repairs (it may not be worth repairing depending on the cost of repair to the price of new), or fix the possible wiring problem.

Do you have the instalation instructions? All wires should be listed.

Ant-most likely for a power antenna.
Parking-parking brake/park neutral safety switch?
Rem-remote turn on for an amp?
X-?
Blue with end crimped on-?

I have seen plenty of botched repairs done by "Qualified professionals". I'm not saying your friend botched the repair but it can't hurt to look.

Why don't you ask your buddy about the extra wires that aren't hooked up. He should know.

Ok I watched my buddy do it and I believe he did a great job. But because I paid for a bumper to bumper warranty I know with these wires being cut previously Gm will most likely void the warranty regardless if it's the issue. What is the harness called because I would like to take a weekend and pull my car apart just to replace it. Sucks because it's a huge harness but if I can keep the warranty maybe I can have Gm fix the power steering. Or if it is the problem then I will have no problem.

Try putting your original radio back in and see if the problem ever comes back. You already have to put it back if your going to try and get warrantee work done that may be caused by the radio.

Ok , I know the solder is good. I helped my buddy do it. Now I took it to the dealer and they replaced the steering column and module along with main lead to the battery. Everything is 100% and covered under warranty. Now I let go for 2weeks and no probs. Put in aftermarket radio and worked 2dayz then power steering stopped working. Put in stock and no problems. Seems like the aftermarket could be the problem. I still don't understand why. And is there anything I'm missing that could be causing this or do I just have an expensive paperweight now?

ok so i know its been a long time, well ive since put in my 8" radio since i didnt have power steering so i thought might as well have my better radio. the next day the issue dissapeared and hasnt returned in the last month. not even once for a second. so i guess soldering and shrink wrap worked just took a bit to get the issue to go dormant. thanks for all the help
