ZZP Midpipe vs DP Back

I currently have ZZP Midpipe Back exhaust and was curious if anyone ran the same for a while, before eventually adding a downpipe? I want to know what the difference in sound and power are between the two? Does it just make exhaust sound louder or give it an entirely different sound? Thanks

I went with a full header back on my 1.8 w/ high flow cat (catless dp and header), 12" resonator and Zzp muffler - it's loud still but not as raspy as before just a little bit

I notice a boost of power but that's because my headers and tune

I ran the ZZP exhaust excluding the midpipe and downpipe for a while. I eventually added the downpipe.

It will be louder, it will create more rasp and it will add more of that turbo whistle noise.

In regards to power, adding the downpipe to my car added 5HP & 10TQ.

Disclaimer: Car wasn't dyno'd back2back. Dyno'd it at different times on different days. The weather was similar. Same dyno was used both times.

Ran it midpipe back then with DP then without DP then back to DP and I prefer the DP sound over just the midpipe back. Turbo whistle makes it all worth it.

Does adding the ZZP catless downpipe cause the check engine light to come on?

It will. You will need a tune to turn off the CEL. Or you could use a j fitting on the downstream o2 sensor and it should clean up enough to not throw a code. I forget the company that makes the j fitting.

I would prefer the J fitting over disabling the CEL. Just in case something goes wrong I would like the CEL to function properly. That is the only reason I am hesitant to get my downpipe and midpipe installed.

When you get a tune, they disable JUST the rear O2 sensor. Since it's only purpose is to evaluate catalytic performance, once you go catless it becomes useless anyway.

The J fitting works decently well, the downpipe on my brother's Jetta uses one and he hasnt gotten a CEL and is still running the stock tune.

Well this sounds pretty good to me, I am going to have a a custom exhaust guy near where i live install my ZZP parts for me so its done right and I would love to not set off a CEL. So I guess what is needed now is to get a J fitting that works with ZZP and probably get the secondary cat as well. How do you think the stock muffler would work with ZZP down/mid/2ndcat?

It would likely limit flow because the zzp exhaust is a larger diameter and you would be choking it down to the factory size at the muffler. Plus the stock muffler doesn't flow as well as an aftermarket muffler.

Vibrant makes the J fitting. I am currently running it with my turboback exhaust. Haven't seen a code and I've been running it for about 5k miles or so.

Thats what im looking at doing, I want the extra ooomph from the ZZP parts but I want it to be queit (ish). I ran a glass pack on my old cavalier and loved it but I couldnt hear anything like bad wheel bearings brakes etc

What were your numbers stock/catback/full exhaust? It sounds like you have at least 2 out of the 3 of those data points.

I didn't test the car when stock.

With full tune, cat-back and intake the car made 162/216.

After adding the downpipe it made 167/226.

I hate to revive a somewhat old thread...but...

I plan on getting a downpipe and a ZZP catback exhaust and I have a few questions.
How should I configure the ZZP catback if I'm going to add a downpipe? With no secondary cat?
Also, Should I get the ZZP muffler or a muffler delete?
Finally, BNR catless downpipe or ZZP catless downpipe/O2 housing?
Thanks! Obviously, I know nothing about a lot of this.

I would go with the cat, resonator and a muffler. It still makes noise but you do not get the drone of a straight piped car.
