nope, screw onto the existing antenna and uses 2 sided tape to mount to roof.

Yup. Piece of cake to install. I used painters tape to help align it. Have had mine for 2+ years now.

Is the radio reception affected by the new antenna?

I had no issues with mine with out any antenna at all and I have read of zero loss of reception with the VG shark fin.

allo, im looking to make an order but just want to confirm with peeps here the paint code.

My RS colour is 'Orange Rock' - was just wondering if that is the same as 'Inferno Orange'.

If you look through the GM colors there is one Orange Rock & about 5 Inferno's & all of them have different paint codes. The paint code I used for my car is G6V which is where things get confusing. If you order anything from the US with this paint code it will turn up painted in a Buick red. Over here this paint code is for Daewoo Orange Rock.

When my unpainted fin arrived it was in grey primer.

My install was a nightmare for something so simple, the supplied bolt would not thread into the base. checked the 6mm bolt and it was fine, it was the base threads?????? so I need to run a tap into the base and clean up the threads, the tap gets stuck as the threads start spinning in the plastic base!!!!!!!!!! I am now pulling and wrenching the hell out of the base to get the tap out and dent the roof piece near the roof spoiler. needless to say but the crossthreaded factory piece cost me plenty for an appearance mod. I like it but now i have a dent to get removed.

How is the waterproofing? The one PITA for the current "Bender antenna" is the water leakage after it has been washed (to which anyone with a black Sonic can attest!).

No holes are cut so if the oem antenna is waterproof than the shark fin should be.

The 3M double sided tape is shaped to match the shark fin.

Water leakage? I don't think I have noticed any yet, and I wash my black hatch a lot.

Er, um, for clarity, water is not leaking into the Sonic.

What I notice is water pools under my (stock) antenna base when I wash my car. Once I take the car on the road the water is then "air-forced" from under the antenna base, causing water spots towards the back hatch.

If the sharkfin can solve this problem, I'll buy one today.
