Well to be honest, I've been really down on the Sonic. I even shopped it around a bit and had someone given me a good deal, it would have been gone. Between the recalls and lack of power, I was all set. However, after weighing my options, I decided to hang on a bit longer. Maybe do a tune and exhaust to wake it up a little. I think my biggest problem was me. I had too high of an expectation for this little car and in the process overlooked the good attributes that it does possess. You really can't get as much on any other car out there as you can on the Sonic for the price. The handling is pretty damn good as well. I think a more aggressive set of tires are in order here and maybe swap out the Eibachs for some coilovers and add some strut bars. I've never been one to care about straight line speed, yet for some reason it's what has been bothering me. I think by improving the power slightly and sticking it to the ground a bit harder I'll be happy with the Sonic. Now let's just all cross our fingers that we're done with the recalls

I've had recalls for a fuel line, air bags, rear brakes and the oil line from the Turbo.

I felt the same way. I ended up trading both my Sonics on a Mazda 3. The wife has a long commute, so she needed something more comfortable and something that gets better mileage than the 1.8L. I have an older car that I drive 2mi to work in.

There are many things I like better about the Mazda (mostly the quality), but there are also an equal number of things I prefer on the Sonic. The Sonic is such a cooler car and I miss mine dearly.

My dad rented a Mazda 3. He hated it from the start and about 159 miles from home it broke down. The rental company had to tow him and he was given an avenger which he loved. Any way I'm sure yours is better than the rental it was probably the cheapest model they make.

My biggest gripe with the car is the rear visibility. For whatever reason, car manufacturers keep raising the beltline, making windows smaller and smaller. A rearview camera in this car is almost a necessity.

I'd agree rear visibility could use improvement, but on balance, the Sonic is a terrific car.
