recommendations for aftermarket brake pads

hello all,

looking for a recommendation for an aftermarket brake pads for the sonic RS.

the original GM ones, are good, but after few hard braking, they smoked really bad..and getting softer.

does anyone have used some aftermarket pads that you could recommend?

additionally, if someone also replaced the stock rotors to some perforated ones and had a good experience with them as well, i like to have your opinion.

I got a set from zzp. The slotted rotors and pads. They bite really well and don't warp or fade near as much as the stock ones.

I really like hawk pads.
I would check out a set of hawk hps pads.

Also check out r1 concepts rotors, they are very good quality.

Just curious, how is the brake dust from those Hawk pads?

The hps should have very little, but braking will be greatly improved.

i had also discussion with a friend , about the idea of a corsa OPC brakes on a sonic.

does someone had that checked in any way?

like to have your opinions on that .

You would need to check the mounting bolt spacing pretty much anything that's 130mm fits. But with the cost to ship just for a 305mm rotor better off going with the LS1 fronts

The Sonic is a very light car with good sized brakes, I doubt you need anything fancy. I am however a big fan of ceramic pads. They nearly eliminate dusting and last forever, they don't groove up the rotors like semi-metalic and also don't squeal. They are the most expensive, but for the other benefits I'll pay more. I have tried both Magnum performance (made in Canada, hard to find here) and just general purpose Autozone pads "ceramic gold". They DO sometimes require a bit more pedal pressure (less initial bite) but with power assist as brakes are, this makes them easier to modulate.

Nothing wrong with the boutique EBC pads, but honestly I doubt most people need them...unless the live in mountains or actually race. And I've actually endurance road raced cars before that used autozone pads and they had plenty of power for our purposes. No fade and our brakes actually were better than every other out there in our '98 mustang (4 disk). I even had a spectator come to our pits and ask who was driving last stint and the awesome braking (chest puffing with pride) right on the edge of lockup. So you likely just need good ceramic pads IMHO.

If you want to spend money get the rear disk conversion as I'm going to do.

Also, we've used some Ebay drilled / slotted rotors with good results. Will say the slotted make noise a bit, but it does sound cool !
