New to the forums, love the community here. Anyways, I need more turbo noise on my Sonic. First car I have ever owned with a turbo and every time I can hear the turbo spool it turns me into a giddy school girl, but I want it to be louder. After scouring the forums a CAI is the best way to go. I want to avoid doing a tune due to a kid on the way and being strapped for cash. I have no problem doing a tune but it may be a couple of years down the road. I am leaning towards a DDM intake but wanted to hear some thoughts. I am also looking into possibly throwing a Volant filter on which ever intake I purchase. All in all, more turbo noise but want to make sure my MPG or the stock power isn't going to drop due to running the ECM stock for the next couple of years. Be gentle lol.

Open the exhaust for louder turbo too.

I don't have an mpfab intake but I'd recommend him based on his customer service/devotion to other forum members.

MPFab is the way to go. No tune necessary if sound is all you're looking for.

It is incorrect, however, to say that these are CAI... the stock air intake the Sonic comes with is a CAI, because it draws air from the fender instead of from the engine compartment. Injen is the least CAI, as it delivers via a tube running directly over the engine, ZZP is next warmest, because it has no heat shield, DDM, MFab, and strangely the "performance" intake from Chevy all have heat shields, but if you want cold air, you need to pipe in from outside the engine compartment. Several RNI mods are available to do that, but nothing commercial, per se, as far as I know (I haven't seen the MFab, maybe he uses the snorkel intake?)
All of that is beside the point, of course, since all you wanted was the noise...any of the above will deliver that, in fact you could just chop the bottom out of your SAB and replace the accordion tube with Spectre parts from your local Autozone/Advance/Pep Boys for the same effect.

There are a few tuners out there now, most people seem to go with trifecta which it seems will soon be sold with a unit to data log/ update your tune. I think ur looking at 170ish at the wheels with those mods but don't quote me on that.

This myth needs to be put to rest. I've posted numerous graphs , months apart I might add, showing that the increase in power gained from the aforementioned parts stays. The car doesn't "tune out" the additional power with only and intake and exhaust. It will make corrections to the boost curve to keep tq from coming on to quickly, but the power remains. From my testing of multiple pulls on the dyno, the car will make its highest tq on the first 2 pulls, after that it will adjust boost response to flatten the tq peak, but hp continues to rise until the 5th or 6th pull where it levels off.
Putting the car back on the dyno weeks later, and the power would be exactly where it was previously.
The tune will "unlock" a substantial amount of power potential from any additional parts, but it isn't needed to make or keep gains.
Edit* Reading this again, I realized this may have come off as me scolding other members, cndctrdj in particular, about the car retuning itself to stock power after intake and exhaust were installed. That was not my intent. I apologize if I offended anyone. I also noticed that my grammar sucks, and I need to improve my proofreading skills so I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone.
