To me a hatchback looks more like a utility vehicle but the sedan has ugly tail lights. I ended up getting a sedan but I wish I could do something with the tail lights.
Why did you choose Sedan or Hatchback?

If you have the divider up they cannot search the back of your hatch. If that's the case they can drop your rear seats and search your trunk the same way...

All my life I have hated hatchbacks, this is probably because of the big CRX craze some years ago. At one time it seems nearly everyone and their brother had a modified CRX and drove it in the most inconsiderate way possible.
That being said, I bought the hatchback Sonic...because when I saw the hatchback I immediately fell in love with it. Its the first time I ever looked at a hatchback and really liked the car.
Then some time later I was researching cars with good crash ratings and once again came across the Sonic, which has a stellar crash rating. When my Cavalier started giving us major trouble I finally got my Sonic. Mine is the metallic gray, I believe they call it "Ashen Gray"
That being said, I bought the hatchback Sonic...because when I saw the hatchback I immediately fell in love with it. Its the first time I ever looked at a hatchback and really liked the car.

jk... Kinda.Hatchback rs, I went to lease a 2014 dodge ram 1500 they wanted 370 a month minimum for the lowest model lease they had. I didn't want a payment that high since I spend 370 a month on my wife's 2013 outlander sport. Then decided I wanted sporty and good on fuel looked at an 08 mini cooper s that everyone told me not to buy. Then found the rs an hr and 45 mins from me made an offer over the phone and picked it up 2 days later. Alot of people thought I was stupid buying such a small underpowered car but I love it and as soon as I can afford tune exhaust and intake ik it will be perfect

Sonic sedan has a surprisingly big trunk for its size and with 4 people in the car you actually have room for luggage, which will not be the case with the hatchback version. You pretty much have to fold down the rear seats to have any decent cargo capacity in a hatchback. Which leaves room for the driver and one passenger.

I bought a sedan because I don't like drawing attention to myself. I'm in my fourties now and would have felt like a 20 year old again in a hatch. I prefer the handling of a sedan, a place to put my 12" woofers and still have room for cargo, and I like the look of the Sonic with 4 doors.

Traded in a 2001 Lincoln Continental and loved the huge trunk. The 2001 sedan LT that I purchased, had at least as much usable space and the rear seats also folded down. The sedan has more cargo room. Despite the USA numbers here, the Holden Berana? twin does show the capacity higher for the sedan vs. hatchback version BEFORE you fold the sedans seats down. Easy decision for me.

I chose the sedan because hatches are lame. Care to add a bit more detail? What makes a sedan lame to you? Potential sonic buyers may be reading these posts and I don't think any one of them would go to the dealership and say I want the hatch, because I read that sedans are lame.

I bought the sedan because I liked the way it looked. A Hatchback looks smaller and to me it looks like you've lost space, but...I also like the fact that when i Put my Sub in...it won't be visible to the naked eye. I just think there's more space in a sedan then in a hatchback...but that's just me..lol.

There's a 2001 Sonic?
I agree that the Sedan does have a lot more cargo volume, the reason I went with the hatch, despite the smaller volume, is that it has a large rear hatch (thus the name) and the volume it does have is more... rectilinear? Cubist? I don't know the term, but at any rate, I have to stack a number of large long boxes in, and the sedan shape is less user friendly for that.
What I would really like would be something as long as the sedan, with a hatchback profile and rear door... a subcompact station wagon. For additional cool points, a second set of sedan style rear seats, so you could put 8 passengers in... although that would really be pushing the envelope as far as weight, unless the extra passengers were all little kids.
Oh, and I want a Fit-style front passenger seat!
