The Sticker Guy
Hello,
This is a "how to" on installing the piloto racing x brace.
Tools:
2 jack stands
A jack
13/16 socket
15mm socket
Impact/ratchet
13/16 wrench
Hammer may also be needed.
First you need to put the front of your car on jack stands. You will be removing the rear a-arm bolt so you can not weight on the front tires.
I jack using the rear sub frame bolt and I put the stand on the rocker panel seam where the factory jack point is.
PLEASE USE CAUTION WHILE OPERATING THE JACK.
Make sure you get it high enough to work under.
( while on the stands i also gave the tires a shake to check the ball joints and tie rods.
It was a good thing I checked, I have a wheel bearing issue that I need to investigate. )
Next you need to remove the front sub frame bolts
It is 15mm. I broke the bolts loose with a ratchet then used the impact to run out.
Next you need to remove the rear a arm bolts. I broke them loose with a ratchet first.
There is a nut on top, but I was able to just run them out with the impact without holding the nut. (Will update with pic of the nut)
Once the a arm bolts are out, the a arms will move.
I found a trick that works well to get them aligned again but more on that later.
Next I put the front of the brace in place and threaded in the bolts a couple turns to hold it. Do not tighten them yet.
The brace will one fit one way.
On to the back bolts.
I was able to get one side started in but with the top not aligned it will not go the whole way. Hammer may be needed to push the bolt up. Just tap it.
This is how I found to do this. ( May be a better way but this is what I did)
Set a jack under the a arm and jack the arm up some (if you go to far you WILL lift the car off the jack stand, BE AWARE OF THIS, you do not want to be working under the car like that)
Once you have pressure on the a arm, turn your steering wheel. Turn left for left and right for right. Go to full lock, you might have to go back and forth a couple times but it will re align the bushing.
USE CAUTION WHILE JACKING.
This will only work if there is pressure on that a arm. Once you get the bolt trough the top, put the nut on a couple threads to ensure the bolt will not fall out.
So same for other side.
Now, take your wrench and put it on the nut.
I used a impact to tighten everything. Basically I went till the impact stopped moving. ( air impact)
Used a impact to tighten the front bolts as well.
Make sure everything is TIGHT. You do not want the a arm bolts coming out while your going down the road.
And the fruits of your labor!
