Porting the Intake Manifold

I'm just the opposite. Almost all short trips around town. Made two trips to NorCal. 80+ mph from San Diego to Clear Lake (1600) miles) with a 29.4 mpg avg. That was pure stock. Mid 90's the car started getting squirrelly so I didn't take it past 96. Rode real nice though.

Quick question, why are you running upgraded injectors for 91 Octane?

If you look in the ported Intake MPG thread I've done significant mileage logging with my car, with normal driving I'm regularly between 37 and 39 MPGs, with "Eco mode" I'm near 40 MPGs/tank.

My driving is 99.5% freeway, so maybe that's the difference?

Reason I got the injectors:
Performance and reliability are my thing and it sounded like they checked both those boxes. Some might say it was excitement for my new toy and ignorance on how hard it is to find E85. I would be among them

that's really low MPG for all freeway. slow down.

Yeah I push it on occasion, but it's mostly due to the I96 construction ruining my commute.

I've gotten as high as 41 doing 70 for entire tanks of gas.

Go back to the stock injectors, only upgrade injectors if you're out of capacity/IDC.

20 around town? I havent seen worse than 25-26 all city and driving aggressively in my 13 RS 6MT, best hwy Ive seen is 34 though at 75mph. On some shorter 65mph trips around Seattle Ive seen 37 IIRC.

Observations during the process:

6 E10 external torx bolts to hold on the manifold, not 8mm
Watch for pinching the vacuum line on the bottom of the manifold when reinstalling
Be careful of MAF sensor ... they are easy to break while you're crawling around.
Takes an honest 2-4 hrs including putting tools away.
Dielectric Grease for connections and anti-seize for manifold bolts.

Did this mod and installed the MPFab intake ... havent noticed much gains honestly. The noises it makes now are much cooler though.

Gains will be at the top end. I didn't even have to bother with removing the air box or maf. Also used 8mm socket not the torx as you noted you had.

WOW.. yet another GREAT POST!!! :banana: You guys here are really AWESOME for all the work your doing.. Im still all stock and Im just now at 4700 miles and as you see my Fuelly is showing 25.2 MPG, the service mgr at my dealer has 2 and he said at about 7k the MPG will jump up. So if I do this mod it will be after that mile marker...

Thanks Guys, since its plastic I know I don't need carbide cutter but I might get one anyways... I have an encore and a sonic to do

Maybe I'll see if I can get the sister in law to sendover the sonic for a top end boost.....

Overall, doing this on a non-trifecta tuned encore shouldn't cause any issues right?

Would the new advantage tune work with this mod??i just got the advantage tune and I got a typhoon cold air kit on my car I have noticed this car doesn't have good power above 4500 to 5000 rpms maybe porting would help I have the automatic transmission.but if the tune won't work I won't try porting the manifold.
