Anyone hear liquid shifting or flapping when braking??

I got in my car this morning and the noises are happening again. I took it straight to the dealership and I was able to get the flapping noise when I brake to happen with the mechanic in the car with me. I was able to come to the conclusion that it only happened after about 20 minutes of me driving. Turns out it had something to do with the brake pads and when they heated up they expanded, or something in them expanded.

The liquid shifting noise is from air getting into the coolant system through a busted gasket. They had to order a new gasket which will get here Monday. So I need to drop my car back off at the dealership Monday and he'll fix everything.

At least the problems have all been found and he knows what's causing all the noises. That's a relief, but why is this all happening on a 3 week old car???

Can you give us any more info about which gasket in the system was "busted?" And if the replacement / repair eliminated the liquid-shifting noises?

I finally got my car back this morning. They replaced a bunch of stuff per the Sonic division at GM. They were on the phone with them most of the end of last week. I know they replaced a few gaskets and the timing chain belt. I think they mentioned the water pump and thermostat. They said they fixed the brake rotors which will fix the flapping sound I get when I brake. When I get home I will scan in the papers I got and upload them to here. As I mentioned before, I am not a car person so I don't understand this stuff. They told me that the Sonic division at GM had them replace a bunch of parts to prevent anything else from happening. Maybe some of you can make sense of the paperwork I got. I'll try to remember to upload it tonight.

I scanned it in, but the file size it too large to attach it. Anyone have any suggestions?

not sure what format the files are scanned into, but if they are bitmaps (*.bmp), then converting them to jpegs should shrink the file size considerably. Also i think with jpegs you can choose how large you want the image files to be. should be as simple as doing a file>save as>save as type>*.jpeg. if that still doesnt work then try saving them as black and white images. as a last (or first) resort, you can always google "how to shrink an image file." if i was on a pc i could be much more help.

It scans as a PDF. I only have the reader at home so I couldn't alter it at all. I scanned it in again and now each page was saved as a JPG. Hopefully I'll be able to upload them. I'll do it in a new entry.

From I read there, they cleaned your brakes and replaced a cylinder head with all relevant bolts, gaskets, etc.

And 4-6: they replaced your water pump, gave you a rental, replaced your coolant thermostat housing, and replaced your cam chain tensioner guide.

How long have you had your car? I had mine 3 weeks...a brand new car shouldn't have to have this much work done to it after 3 weeks!

I've had mine for about 6 months now. 16,000 miles so far. The liquid shifting sound has been there from day one. The coil pack is being replaced due to it pretty much falling apart when I took it off to check the gap on my spark plugs. I have 3 broken spark plug boots and a spark plug with a missing electrode. So I was getting bad spark blowout on top of a shorted out coil.

My luck I guess. lol

I've had bad luck with cars, so this is just another one added to the list. This is the first American car I've had trouble with, though. The others were a Subaru and Hyundai. :sadbanana:

I'm starting to regret getting this car. Nothing should be going wrong after 3 weeks...let alone this much!

To me it looks like someone took a shot in the dark and shotgunned a bunch of parts at the car. Wouldnt be the first time that has happened. Glad it was all warranty and not CP work.

I've been to downers grove quite a bit lately, you're only about an hour away then. You should be fine now, I wouldn't be too worried unless something else happens
