Yeah, I probably should start using something better. Right after I bought the car, I went and bought 3 different oil filters, a AC Delco, Fram, and a STP. I compared them and the Fram looked to me like the better quality. The filter media appeared thicker and more sturdy I guess you could say. So I returned the other 2. I'm not sure what you mean by "pleats" in the filter media. Could you explain that to me? I'm new to cartridge filters. This is the first car I've owned that uses them. Next oil change I'll try another brand.
The "pleats" are the where the "yellow" filter media goes back and forth towards the center of the filter. Assuming the same quality of filter media - the more "pleats" the more filtering surface area the filter has.
These are actual photos of the Sonic filters, directly from the manufacturers of the filters, that we have available on on parts lookup for my commercial customers (I call on new and used car dealers, independent repair shops and fleets).
