Official - noise/rattle complaint thread

My new Sonic has the same low rpm rattle. It sounds like muffled detonation. I'll wait until my next tank of gas because I suspect my salesman cheaped out on the octane during it's first fill.

If 93 octane doesn't quiet it down I'll dig a little deeper.

Rattles And Squeaks

Wanted to poll everyone out there regarding any annoying noises such as rattles and squeaks that have cropped up with your Sonic. Mine still has a rattle in the front end (I just has my sway bar replaced) and the driver's seat upper has an annoying squeak. I know I shouldn't expect the build quality of a Mercedes but I wouldn't expect my Sonic to be a rattle trap either.

I just have the wind noise at the drivers window but I am pretty sure that a good amount of us have that. To me it sounds the same if I'm going 40 or 80 mph. Other than that I can't remembe anything else, I drove it two weeks and it has been almost a month and a half since the last time I drove it.

I have a very slight suspension squeak as well, I only hear it when I'm driving with my window open down my parent's driveway that has a fence beside it to reflect the sound back to me, It's not enough to worry about in my opinion.

Yeah. Still rattles. Dug around for loose parts but found none. My next shot at silencing it will be an oil change (It's still on it's factory fill).

Although, I am beginning to think what was said about it being the VVT might be correct.

In which case I'll hack the exhaust off and drown out the engine. LOL

When she encounters irregular road surfaces, Blanche emits a faint squeaking sound from somewhere inside the rear headliner. The squeaking becomes more acute as the temperature rises.

I can produce a variation of the noise by opening and shutting the rear doors while parked.

When I reach back and press the headliner firmly upwards, the sound temporarily disappears (only to return when I release pressure).

I can also mitigate the sound by fully opening the sunroof.

Despite this occasional chirping, I've been generally impressed by Blanche's NVH characteristics.

Got some sort of creaking noise going on with ours. According to others the sway bar seems to be the issue. Interesting part it only does it when its hot out!

Then why start this thread? It's an economy car. It's going to have some minor NVH issues as a result of trying to keep the price low.

The Sonic as it arrived at the dealership was much too quiet for my tastes.

But I quickly took care of that: vinyl graphics on the side, which I am certain added an additional 5hp per side and temporarily helped me hear the engine sound as I drove down the road.

All joking aside, the Sonic we are driving was scary quiet before someone got their hands on it and now it sounds just right. So quiet that in one of my early posts to this forum I compared it to a Cadillac but probably should have compared it to a Buick, which to me is just as quiet as a Cadillac.

I found some 09 Cobalt sway bar links on E-bay That look like they may work as a replacement. Only $29 a set with free shipping. If they turn out to be the wrong length I can cut/weld/Tap/ whatever them rite. Heck only $29 to find out.

Noise complaints

Ok so I'll start it off by saying I know what causes this to happen but it dose not make it right.

I went out for lunch today nothing out of the norm. I didn't give my car hell or any thing. After eating I return to my car and start it my passenger still with the door open. I push the clutch turn the key then all hell breaks lose for all of about 10 seconds. I asked my passenger was that really my car. They confirmed me.

On cold start I understand the noise is typicly oil loss on start up but sh*t. I have never heard nothing like this and I've been in the auto world for a while. I could not duplicate this again.

Any one else have issues with noise. I am also hearing a rattle on cold take off and idle. But nothing this serious.
