What to do with your Sonic 25 years from now...

Before I'd spend $3000.00 on that - I'd use my Husqvarna AWD with all wheel steering articulating lawn tractor with it's 42" snow blower.
The thing turns on a dime (I got it into that position without having a wheel leave the concrete).
Yes, brand new I paid $6500.00, but can you imagine trying to find parts when they break on that abomination??? And I can use it year round cutting grass and blowing snow...

I also have the lifetime drivetrain warranty. It was a little extra in the purchase.

in 25 years my sonic will probably be in a junkyard somewhere. as much as i would love for it to last, im willing to accept the truth lol
Well... I'll still have it. Hot Rod PU is 26 right now. Cavalier is 17. Harley is 13. I hazard to guess the Sonic will be a totally sick ride by that time.. Similar to my Hot Rod Pick Up... Which started out as a plane jane, and ended up a super model. I hope they are still making Sonics in 2040.
I'll say that my Truck build, now in it's 10th year (RestoMod), has been an education.
1.) Company's go out of business. Wheels get discontinued, Suppliers merge or close.
If there is a sweet set of rims out there, go get them now. I nearly blew it with Enkel Grab 6. They stopped (G6 Production) last year. There was not to be any other wheel, and Ebay saved my butt.
Equipment you like will need your imagination to maintain. I have a hard tonneau cover for the back that is flush mount. The rubber gasket dry rotted in storage, and now I have to fab up a different bed gasket design, as the org maker stopped production years ago.
New stuff that replaces old stuff, will drive you bats. I changed my front grill 4 times as they got "cooler" over the years. Pick one, or it'll suck money away from other stuff.
If the Sonic stays popular, and Horse Power demand is high, then motors down the road will blow away stock. Aftermarket blocks, internals, and transmissions are all in its future if it does. Once they get past most state emission years, it's game on for HP.

Chevrolet dealer has a lifetime drivetrain warranty on there vehicles. of course you have to do your maintenance and all. but they also gave me lifetime oil changes. trick is they will try to talk you into a new car down the road and I do belive that warranty cost is tucked into the purchase cost. but I love the idea of new engines, transmissions and turbos if needed down the road for free
The Ford Escort had a huge following; mostly because of the european Cosworth cars. Ford never did anything with it. They made a GT similar to the RS series in the fashion of a more sporty econobox; but that's all the further it went. Eventually it was replaced by the Focus. Eventually the Sonic will be replaced by another line. I don't believe Chevy will ever actually dig into the performance aspect of this car. And for that fact alone; the aftermarket will always be very limited. So 25 years from now I'm sure I'll be in a completely different car and my Sonic will be in a scrap yard somewhere or recycled into a new car...lol
Now if Chevy makes the Sonic compete with the Fiesta ST; then there will be a following and the car may stand the test of time.

Lifetime doesn't mean lifetime. If you keep the car long enough, probably over 8 years, you may be able to get warranty replacement parts cheaper but I doubt you'll get full warranty replacement. GM will claim you've got the expected life out of the parts that need replacing & it is going to cost you something, still better than the standard warranty though.
