I get amazing MPGs

Hey guys. I have a 1.8L sedan that is 5-speed. It has almost 3,000 miles on it and I've had it about a month and a half. All the brochures suggest that my highway MPGs should be about 35, however, for the last 3 100+ mile trips I've taken, the MPGs were averaging 46!

Is anyone seeing such numbers from a 1.8L? And do you think this will last, or is it because its still "new" and has low mileage that it will eventually get into being 35.

Ps. Im only using 87 octane gas.

Are you calculating that yourself or going by the notoriously over-optimistic mpg calculator on the gauges?

On mine I can pretty much count on the DIC being 4 miles per gallon over real life.

Like stated above, manually calculate your mileage per tank. If you're getting up to speed and clearning your avg mpg and running 65 mpg for 100 miles it is not being averaged like Chevy is being averaged for mileage. And if you are clearing out your avg, try doing a couple of WOT runs and see how much your mileage is affected.

I'm seeing about 4 mpg high on my DIC as well. All city driving my 1.4t was getting about 30-32 before I left.

Mine drops fast at lights and picking up speed and takes a long time to go up at highway speeds average speed 24 mph.At 50 mph no traffic 56 mpg if reset at 50 mph.

Yup, I've noticed ya have to keep the wheels rolling if you want to max out your mpg. Not so much how much gas is being used rather how much ground is being covered. The dashboard mpg on my ltz is around 32-33mpg.

The more I drive, the closer the DIC number and my calculated number come into line. Then again the DIC has been going for 5400 miles and my Fuelly is at 4900 (6900 miles on the car). Right now that are only 0.2 mpg apart.

My best highway run was 44.8 and my worst all city is 33.3 According to Fuelly I am averaging 37.2 mpg. Not bad for a 1.8 5mt wagon.

If you don't reset your DIC every tank, that's not an accurate representation of your MPG per tank. It's a good lifetime mileage stat, but that's it.

I only use teh DIC as a rough estimate for how im doing. If it drops I know that I have had to much fun. I check it every fill up using Fuelly. I know the DIC is a little optimistic, even with a reset at fill up I never got a decent accurate number from it. Was always off by a few MPG.

i use fuelly to calc it and i average 30.1 overall fill ups....

ive been on several road trips, but idk how to drive without my foot all the way down...

My DIC is notoriously accurate. But then again, all my gauges are.

Speedometer and GPS unit are exactly the same. Trip counter and GPS are the same. Gas Gauge is extremely accurate, and I have calculated half a dozen tanks and gotten the same exact MPG number that the car displays.

We reset ours everytime.

My wife averaged 42mpg on her commute. Mine is much shorter, only 10 or so miles, and I am averaging 36mpg.

Of course, I have been thoroughly testing the NLS on my tune.

My DIC has been getting more accurate over time. Originally, it was saying 39 MPG when I first bought the car, but now it's only about 0.8 MPG off from my calculated mileage (so far, mostly short trips around town never going above 35)
