Hey guys,
I have been looking for quite some time at purchasing a roof box for my car and I eventually bit the bullet and dove into finding one that fit the car nicely. I have seen a lot of threads about the roof racks but not as many about the cargo boxes.
First, on Thule and Yakima's websites, they do not show any products that will work with our cars (Hatchback for me). I had gotten the GM bars as a toss in from the dealership so I didn't really pay for them. They are study and very easy to take on and off (10 minutes tops by yourself).
I did some roof measurements and read a lot of reviews for cargo boxes. I eventually set my eyes on the Thule boxes but was concerned about fitment due to length and the distance between the roof rack bars. When I was at REI, they offered to bring the box out and set it on top of the roof rack for fitment purposes. It fit no problem. The Cargo box is super easy to install, weighs about 40LBS and opens from both sides.
We are going to be moving from Arizona to Alaska next week so I can provide further details of durability, what we can pack into the box and if the end up being any issues with rain.
Here are the specs:
I have a 2013 Chevy Sonic RS with the GM roof rack bars. Max load is 110LBS
Thule Sonic L 634 Cargo Box (Go figure on the Sonic Model)

This is the sticker on the box for reference.
Here are the factory door frame grooves for the GM roof rack bar.

Not worried about the plate here.

Passenger side open
I hope that this thread has given you some information and insight into the Cargo Box options available to the Sonic. Let me know if you have any questions.
