I just want to make sure as this is my only car and I don't want to do something that will make it not drive..thanks guys for the answers.also can I disable CEL's with just a advantage tune I see where u do it but I understand you have to do while you tune the car and i didn't know if the advantage tune would allow me to change it..I have people say I can and BNR said I would have to upgrade to be able to do this. Can anybody tell a defiant answer please thanks ..

The 1.8 intake manifold is of course totally different than the 1.4 and I found a cut away drawing online at one point and it didn't look like it had those dams like the 1.4

I STILL haven't gotten around to doing this yet. I mentioned it before but not sure if this has been tried yet.... Anyone use a hot knife kit to just cut out the flap versus grinding it? I have one and was thinking it would make this process butter smooth.....

Sounds like you got cooler tools than the rest of us. Should work just fine. Same rules apply. Go slow and be not to cut too much.

Of all of us that has done this. Anybody here a loud pop, like a plastic lid popping off a container. The morning after i did port, i here a thud like pop idling up to a light after hitting it in 2nd for a few seconds. Now car runs 14hg with a shaky needle as opposed to 18 before port.
Any ideas of different vaccuum issues?

Im pretty sure GM built these intake runners the way they are for manifold vacuum reasons. When you port these, you lose low end torque and idle vacuum, and you gain top end power.
Its the same as if you replace a high rise plenum, like a super victor edelbrock intake, for a stock intake mani on an carbureted V8.
This is exactly the reason the dual plane manifold was invented on the old carbed motors, save low end torque and vac for driveability, and gain a little top end. The old guys used to tell me the plenum style really didnt matter that much for boost, since you're forcing air into it, so they just ran the one thatd give em the most vacuum *at idle.
I'll bet the best street setup would be to cut half the meat off the runners instead of all of it.

Wish I had thought of that before porting mine all the way. Would have been an interesting experiment! In fact, if someone wanted a ported intake, I would be open to a trade just for the experiment. Curious to know if there's a balance somewhere that gives a smoother idle but still pulls to the redline.

I think this would be a cool test. A dyno day to see the differences between the stock runner, half port, and full port.
And test the manifold vacuum to see which ones make the most vacuum.
