Porting the Intake Manifold

Ironically enough after a couple minute warmup today, the gauge went back to 19hg. I hooked compressor to intake and felt for leaks, and got nothing.

I guess its just acting weird on warmup without the tumblers then.

Phewww, glad theres no leaks.

It's designed not to leak to the atmosphere if the PCV or BPV solenoid air bladder checks pop. You'll need to pull the intake manifold and look.

I've been meaning to port my manifold. I would be down to test it halfway ported and then fully ported, the only problem is that the nearest Dyno I know of is four hours away.

Im working on a full ported modified PCV intake mani. Ill make a stock runner one, and then will be in the market for an intake mani with a blown check valve to do the half port.

Maybe in the spring or summer I can test em.

On second thought the tabs in the runners may be for fuel atomization and manifold vacuum, maybe more than one reason for em. That'd be cool if someone knew an OEMer engineer who worked on intakes.

I got a manifold that I'm modifying to fix the PCV system. It was from a friend who started out with a Dremel port job. The idea is top end airflow with the port mod, no reason to leave horsepower on the table.

These ridges and gaps need to be filed down:

Next step, sanding/polishing. Old farts used to pay hundreds for this type of work, I'm thankful we have plastic.

I have a manifold without the check valve. Whenever you need it just let me know. The only thing is that you have to use your own fuel rail because I kind of bent the one on this one. Well not the rail, but the metal clips that hold the injectors.

MJA that's a serious port job. Really nice job. Wondering if/how much difference your porting makes. I wouldn't want anyone to compare ours side by side.

Thank you, probably not much difference really, with forced induction we'll see less returns from port/polish jobs.

Okay, not to disrespect in any kind of way but for some reason Turbo Tech Racing teased us by asking if any of us were interested in an aluminum intake manifold but decided to not build it. I know that the price they would have sold it for was a little high but for an intake manifold that you wouldn't have to port, would last the life of the car and would look way better than plastic, I would have paid the asking price.

By any chance, does anybody know who else we can ask to build us an aluminum intake manifold?

I know that the price they would have sold it for was a little high but for an intake manifold that you wouldn't have to port, would last the life of the car and would look way better than plastic, I would have paid the asking price.

No, no, no my friend, I wouldn't pay any price for an aluminum intake manifold. I think that the price that Turbo Tech Racing quoted is on the high end of what anyone would want to pay. Really, if I was willing to pay any price for performance, I would have bought a Camaro or better yet, a Corvette. I just want to make the best of an affordable car for a reasonable price.

From a reliability standpoint, a redesigned intake manifold with a proper PCV valve would be great for the community.

Performance-wise, I don't think there'd be a huge benefit over the stock manifold + porting. It'd be expensive to develop and low volume for the 1.4.

The 1.8 is a different story, there's power to be made in a new N/A manifold.
