Sound like the dealer thought you had an automatic..and it sounds like half truth advice.
For my automatic they fixed an axle seal saying that was the cause of the leak. .I don't know if that fixed it yet. But they up selled a transmission flush to me for the automatic. Apparently they flush the fluid through the trans cooler lines that go to the radiator.
But for my automatic they said it was due for a change at 50k miles. I have no idea if the change was necessary but it was not super expensive or anything. With no dipstick and multiple changes needed to get all the fluid out of the trans I thought this beat me spending an afternoon doing it..
Anyway if you can do the manual or auto fluid yourself than it seems a good thing no matter when you do it.
