Well, I contacted ZZP Performance about building an aluminum intake manifold. Hopefully, they'll accept the task and offer a already ported aluminum intake manifold for the 1.4 and 1.8. I'll let you guys know what they respond when they get back to me.

I appreciate the complement but unfortunately ZZP Performance got back to me with bad news. Here's what they responded...
Here at ZZP we try to prioritize what make for the vehicles to increase performance. The factory intake manifold isn't really a restriction point under 180whp. As we push the platform if we find the manifold to be a restriction we can definitely revisit an aftermarket manifold, but for now a manifold would likely be an expensive appearance mod.

Also quick question while on the topic of manifolds
And throttle body's
I wonder if there are any intake manifolds or itb setups for similar engines we could potentially retrofit to ours
The hard part should really only be figuring out how to fit it to the block itself
Also if someone had a 3D printer
Maybe a 3D printed one?
There's many ways to chemically bond and smooth some of the plastics they use so part size shouldn't matter tooooo tooo much

Get the flange laser or water jet cut. Find a shop that can source the material, give them a stock gasket and they'll make it up.
I'm sure a local welder can assemble and weld for you. All in you're probably going to spend $1000 if you're lucky, maybe up to $1500....
Because it's a one off piece the cost is high, and unless you're pushing something bigger than the gtx you're unlikely to realize any significant gains over the stock manifold.

I can do fab work myself
And weld
I'm just worried about where the throttle body connects and where it meets the head
So I'd probably send a cut up intake with the part that meets the head and get either a 1/4 or 3/8 inch plate then go from there
My only problem is flow for it because I'm going to do this after I boost my 1.8 eventually ( probably with a turbo that starts spooling at around 2.5 because I still want some economy ) so I'm worried about even flow
If you look at high power engines you'll notice how the intake plenum had that tear drop shape so it doesn't bias towards the rear because it has to fight its own airflow
So I'll probably cad it up and have it flow tested before anything
But that's what I'm going to do if and after I can't find an itb setup for any similar engine or dual throttle body setup

No tease... members spoke they wouldn't pay for what it cost. Look at ANY aftermarket sheet metal manifold, our price of $500-600 is on the LOW end. I have no idea how some say it is to high; high compared to what?!?
We are not going to invest 100's of hours into a product no one will buy...
So it again isn't a tease from us, it is members on the site that determine the availability.

It is the largest sonic forum, so yes we did...
Not sure why members are asking other companies? No other company will make a full aluminum manifold for any less than $500... price is the main reason why this never happen almost 4 years ago.

Just the Cruze is the only other sub compact.. sonic market is 10X the market the Cruze is...
Again, we didn't say no, members on this forum said no to the price.
Seems way to many times on these forums you have 2 classes of members. One for Performance and one for daily driving/MPG...
The daily drivers seem to convince the Performance members to not modify. Daily drivers have no interest in the first place but the still want to post no to products, that is what hurts the Performance members. Be better if they would just not post if they have no interest period.

Could TTR make a manifold out of something other than aluminum that is cheaper but stronger than stock ?
Or offer something that shores up or improves the stock manifold. I think there is a market...maybe not for an expensive full metal intake manifold but a marker nonetheless.

Not that we would offer this service, but being in this market,just simply sending a factory plastic manifold to a company to port would be $200 on average, and in the end you still have a plastic manifold with a small plenum...
Aluminum is what aftermarket manifolds are made from, for many reasons. Steel is to heavy, and plastic is weak on high power turbo cars.
I don't think members realize the complexity of a manifold and for $500 range how little profit would even be in it for the manufacture.

Anyone that has issues with a custom aluminum for $500 is off their rocker.... A decent 2.2 ecotec manifold is $750, that's a motor that actually gets support in the after market...
SMH, disappointed to hear this forum's feedback discouraged production. Maybe it's time to repoll, lots of Sonics have been sold since four years ago...

Your right, the ecotec cobalt/cavalier is s very high production volume run manifold for us. We most likely have sold more than any other company for this car. Price is $500 on those and is a bit more simple design than the sonic would require...
People want aftermarket parts, and don't want to pay for them, And then ask why such little aftermarket products are available .... silly!
