Camaro Brake Swap

ya, sorry my post wasn't too clear. So i removed the stock Sonic calipers and rotors no problem. Mounted the Encore rotors no problem. But when i mounted the Camaro caliper brackets i noticed that the Rotor sat off center in relation to the Caliper bracket. Or vise versa. It wasn't off much and i probably could have lived with it, but it looked like an easy fix.

Looking at the Caliper brackets i cold see there was a lot of meat at the mounting holes casting. I just took the brackets to the machine shop and had the machinist mill down a tenth of an inch on the face of both mounting holes. That mostly centered up the Rotor to Caliper bracket relation. Didn't get a pic of that. When i take the Calipers off for the Brake line upgrade i will take a pic and post it.

How much did that machine shop charge you?

Just heard mine growling the other day on a cold day rolling at 5mph. Hopefully it was just that, gotta take apart and inspect, relube everything and while I'm at it install my spacers.
Either that or it's because I'm using track pads lol.

It's about the same price as the ZZP kit. Just piece it together like
minitrucking02 laid out, and instead of the Camaro Calipers, I went for the C5 Z06.

Why?
Good pads more than makeup for the minimal loss in pad size
And you lose clamping force

Mainly for the look, either way it's better stopping power over stock. I don't race or autoX this car everyday to need that extra clamping force.

Imho I'd still have gone for the camaro brakes because they are so much cheaper

The 4th gen F-body/C5 rotors are 1.25" thickness. The Encore are 1". Is there a possibility of over extending the pistons as the pads wear? Minimum rotor thickness is typically only 2mm-3mm from max thickness. As a result, to even make contact with the Encore rotors, the caliper pistons are sticking out over double the amount at the allowable wear limit for the correct rotors. This is on a new set of pads...

Have roughly 12K no issues yet. Glad to be the guinea pig on this

Glad it's working out. Had a heck of a time making the f-body ones clear everything. The additional thickness made life more difficult, but got to test everything at a track day at Barber Motorsports Park. Brakes are sensational with rear disc conversion and EBC yellows all the way around. I'm running C6 calipers. They have smaller aluminum pistons than the Camaro calipers and are pressure cast instead of gravity cast. Supposed to be much more rigid. That's why they cost more. I stumbled upon these at a buddies shop, and got a great deal on them.

depends on wheel size, offset, etc etc.
17s will fit either.

Yes.
I am using factory alloys and I fit Camaro brakes inside.

Did this on my sonic the other day, used calipers from rock auto, got a pair already coated red for about $90, with brackets and all (powerstop s4692). Coated rotors, and powerstop pads, just generic performace ones, nothing crazy. Missed the note about the bolts, had to run around to two stores and pick up the fine thread dorman bolts.

For the hose, if you spray a little silicone lube or something similar under the mounting grommet, and slide it down the hose, it clips back in the strut where it's supposed to once you're all done. The piece just needs to move up the hose a little bit.
