Meaty Tire Thread

Anyone running meaty tires on 17" or 18" wheels? I'm getting ready for new tires this spring and am thinking about 225/45r17 for some 17x7.5" wheels. I'm a HUGE fan of wheels with meaty tires but have only seen a few sonics running that type of setup. Not a fan of stretched tires.

If I keep my stock RS wheels I'd like to run 225/45s, any thoughts?

Along with 17 or 18 inch rims

Nothing new

Meaty imo would be like 8-10 inch wide

My tires are 235/45r17 and they seem to be the meatiest I could fit on my 17x7.5 et 38 wheels. There is slight rub at full lock though.

Niice! Yea this is the look for me. Partly because I moved from NYC to SF so low profile never made sense to me. I'm not lucky enough to avoid every pothole so a 35 or 40 series tire would be an eventual disaster.

235/45 is pretty beast on a 7.5, how's the speedo reading? I'd imagine 235/40 would work too right?

My summer wheels/tires are also 235/45/17 on Enkei 17/7.5 wheels. They look and fit nicely, and I haven't noticed any rubbing. Tires are Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's
Although a little taller than stock, the speedometer is true with some local radar speed warning signs; I'm sure that the odometer is slightly behind the actual mileage though.

When the speedometer reads 45 mph, I'm actually doing about 45.5; according to the calculations. At 100 mph, I'm actually doing 101. So I don't even take the difference into account being that small. I would think 235/40r17 would work, but I like the bigger sidewall with the 235/45.

According to tirerack, a 235/45r17 tire has a rim width rating of 7.5-9". I don't think it's small at all. I used to have 205/50 on my 7.5" wide wheels.

I didn't do much research before ordering those. I just did it to keep the speedo correct. Wasn't my best decision.

The stretch wasn't horrible, but it was more than I preferred.

In the summer, my Sonic RS runs 225x45 17x8 on Eibach Pros with 19mm adapters. Pictures in build thread. I like the look but experience major rub with rear passengers. Iirc my spedo is off by 2mph but helps because I always speed.

Im looking for a so I can get a little better ground clearance and help me out on the dirt "roads" I like going down in the mountains. I have stock 15in rims and I'd like to not have to buy new rims, but I guess I could save up a bit longer... Any suggestions?
