IMO they should make 1.4T standard across the board the way they do with Cruze (even the base Cruze gets the good engine). Sure it would cost 'em a few bucks...but isn't that better than having a 20% sale every two months because they're not selling??

And go back to quad round headlights on the next version...

Sad they see the headlights as the reason for poor sales. I believe it was totally marketing as I had no idea the Sonic existed until I rented one at a car rental. Even then I had no idea there was a Hatchback version. This was in 2016. Years after the car had been released.

Yup, when I was shopping few years back I never new about the Sonic either. I was walking on the lot for cars in the 10k range.

Test drove a few cars but didn't like them.. as I was about to leave I saw the front end of it and the quads without lenses and asked what is that... drover her and was sold.

I agree.. Maybe write Mary Barra head of GM and the head of Chevrolet and tell them that.

I too, will add my name to the ever growing list of people disappointed in this decision by GM. I get comments all the time about how cool this little car is, and the sporty look is just unmatched for the price.

I must admit though, and this is really just my two cents, but I truly feel the 2nd generation styling played a huge role. I fully planned on buying a second sonic when the new revision came out until I realized that it looked just like the competition/other cars on the road. I'm not sure who made/agreed to the decision to replace the quad circle headlights...but shame, shame, shame (insert Game of Thrones meme here).

Alas, I have no interest in the direction GM is saying they will go in place of these vehicles either. Even more unfortunate for GM, will be trying to get customers back who leave for the competition. :sadbanana:

EDIT: I think it's worth noting too that my family has always owned GM products for generations. So it was with a really heavy heart in 2017 when we committed to a new brand in place of the planned sonic.

Problem is the direction GM is taking is away from the customer and focusing on the money. They don't make enough profit, in the US, on the Sonic to keep it around. You will probably continues to see the vehicle in non US markets badged as Sonic or Aveo. But those markets don't really have large cars or full size trucks and SUVs. And let's face it the biggest profit makers in the US is the full size market. When you look at what some analysts say, GM makes $10000 profit on the more loaded versions of full size trucks and SUVs. Spark and Impala will be the next to go. When that happens you will see a price drop on the Cruze. That and there are supposed to be two new small SUVs available in the US market.

Well, GM is keeping the Sonic at least for 2019. See the threads posted today with the fleet order guide included.

Also, many do not realize it, but the so called small SUV like Buick Encore and Chevy Trax do not offer really much more in practical room than the Sonic which is built on the same Gamma II platform. The main difference is in the Trax/Encore height which only marginally increases interior space but also presents a taller wind catching profile. The rest of the dimensions are within 10's of and inch and in some case less than the Sonic HB.

Just read today that Chevy will no longer be selling the sonic after the 2018 model year. With gas set to top 1.40 per L this weekend, I’m not sure why the auto manufacturers are focusing on gas guzzling suv’s And pick up’s and killing all the fuel efficient cars . The spark is great and all but I have two small children , there is no way I’ll ever be able to fit both of them , wife and all the crap that comes with them In the back of a spark.

It doesn't look good after 2019 in United States. However... with Ford pulling out of the Subcompact and Compact car market and gasoline prices on the rise, I'm hoping (more like Praying), that there will be enough of a demand to delay the Sonic's execution after 2019. Maybe GM will roll out a Subcompact CUV after 2019 and put the Sonic badge on it (??).

I am curious if the Sonic's last year in the U.S. is 2019, what about the rest of the world? Is there enough of a demand for the Sonic/Aveo to keep production at the South Korean plant after 2019? Hmmm...
