Non-RS 6th gear

Hey everyone. Recently I have had a thought. I know that the older Civic guys would swap the 5th gear from their B16 Jdm trans to the B18 longer ratio American trans for better highway mileage. Does anyone know if this is possible with 6th gear from a non-RS trans into an RS one? The ratios are .74=RS and .61=non. I used an online calculator and it would drop rpms at 75mph from ~3000 to ~2500. Any idea if this would be possible?

yes i believe it is possible. but your going to have to order parts from england as there are none here. there are a couple of places overthere that do these trannys. g

You can swap the driveline between the two transmissions. The MZ4 and your MF3. There's a thread on here talking about doing just that. Granted you'll need to crack open both.

Ratio swap

Curious to why there's a difference in ratio ? Other than RS only came in turbo up to 2017
And I'm assuming we're talking manual right ? What would be the reason GM had different ratios between the two models ....????

Oh man, I'd love to change to a shorter ratio trans. At 65mph I'm running just shy of 2000 rpm and I have to drop two gears to do anything.

I believe the change was to give the RS a slight performance advantage with the shorter gear ratios; unfortunately there was little if any acceleration improvement, and mileage suffered because the loss of a taller top gear ratio.

What it's like to have a RS trans? Just leave your LT/LTZ trans in 5th gear instead of shifting to 6th. The ratios and RPM are almost the same.

I'm assuming that this was talking about a manual there is no difference between gearing in a automatic RS vs a automatic LTZ ? That be kinda pointless . That is funny that GM would do that but I know how needing that extra gear is and not having it .

ok that answers my question. Here I'm thinking something is screwy with the trans cuz of the 3000 rpms at 75 mph; since other 4 bangers I've driven don't rev that high. what the heck, my mpg sux for a 4banger!
