Weight reduction. anyone have any numbers ?

so , i am learning to become a welder , classes start at the end of the month . long story short. I dream of making a hill climb car or time attack . I want to use a sonic for it as i just love the aggressive look of the 2015 i own

With that in mind i was wondering if anyone has taken out ALL the interior like speakers / back seats / dash basically made a shell and if so how much weight has it reduced to?

with a curb weight of 2700ish and change . can this car get down to the 2000 maybe 2100 weight.

My full time goal is to rip the engine out , make it rear wheel drive with a mid engine motorcycle engine , full cage front to rear slam it to the ground .Put on a full under chassis plate for better aero (sorry i dont know its technical name) aero body kit and hopefully enjoy and run some hills or time attack sessions

I know this sounds very aggressive but i really want to use a sonic over another car to which i know there are better solutions out there to pick from
(i just recently seen some K swapped sonics which where really cool)

I mean good luck. In terms of a chassis there are worse, and its really not that heavy for the amount of space you get. But honestly, you're gonna have to custom fab everything. That's a lot of work, and a big bite to chew by yourself. You can try and contact PMR and see if they are willing to part with some tips.

As far as weight reduction? You're not gonna drop 600lbs from the interior alone. Maybe if it was just stripped down to the engine and a fan and the barest of bones chassis.

Sounds like a fun project, it's your ride so do what you want with it! It would be cool to see something like this materialize!

Back seats are pretty light actually, carpet kit isn't much either. Maybe like 70lbs for both front seats too, they're pretty light as they're manual everything so no motors to add weight. Maybe 150-200lbs for gutting the interior completely, plus whatever you have to add back in (racing seat, harness, etc). No clue what the dash or headliner weigh as those are the only interior piece I haven't had out. Heaviest single item is probably the compact spare tire!
