1.8 Oil pressure switch

Has anyone done a diy replacement on this critter? It's really in a bear of a location between the water pump and A/C compressor, i can't get on it with a socket or wrench. What has to be removed? compressor, or the manifold which it terribly close to it? What does it take to release serpentine belt tension if one had to move the A/C compressor? A simple switch change shouldn't be this difficult

thanks for the recommendation. my first challenge however is that i can't even get a straight shot at the sender to get the socket on it, unless you have used it successfully without removing the a/c compressor to get a straight shot at it? Or is there a chance that it is short enough to drop down behind the compressor?

Well, for anyone interested, i was able to complete this install. Once i was able to finally detension the serpentine belt (using a standard 12 point metric socket), it was easy to drop the A/C compressor just enough to get a deep socket onto the sensor and extract it. That belt piece of the puzzle however was a complete disaster. The only way I was able to access the tensioner was through two layers of plastic through the wheel well. What a pain in the neck! I'm wondering if there must be some kind of low profile tool to get on to that tensioner without going from underneath?

Would you have a number, or a description of the tool? I tried a Google search and came up empty handed.

It was just a short 12pt socket with a flat breaker bar

Sorry to bring back and old thread... However, I will be doing this repair as well. What is the size of the oil sensor? Need to buy the correct size deep well socket. Also, what size for the tensioner? 13mm? Are the bolts holding the AC compressor standard bolts, or external torx? Size? Thanks!

Um . . did you not read post # 2 in the very thread? It lists the socket that must be used. Oil pressure sensors or switches usually require a special shaped socket wrench.
Also. . . it may be coverd yet by warranty. It really helps if you put your model, year, trim level, engine, transmission, etc in your profile signature. Then everytime you come back and ask a question, people do not have to go through the ringer again asking it all. Gosh . .. do some leg work this isn't FB or InstaGram.

Umm, I am looking for a specific size, I might already have it! That link is useful, but doesn't help completely with an exact size, only lists a range that should fit. I'm posting in the 1.8l engine forum, thats all that is needed for this, the fact that its an LTZ with a 5spd is irrelevant. Well past warranty, otherwise I would obviously take that option, and its not part of the recall. No info about the tension bolt size, or the size for the compressor bolts. Thats why I posted to the thread, I've done the legwork.. Gosh. No need for internet attitude, only looking for help. Posting here and FB are last resort if Google can't help. Geez... :blankface:

Indy125; the belt tension tool is esssentially a piece of flatstock with a 1/2 square drive on it. As i recall, i still needed to move the airbox out of the way to come in from the top. What i don't remember was whether the upper engine mount needed to be moved as well. both of these were relatively simple. Craftsman 41831 Serpentine Belt Tool is just one example.

Will no doubt come back asking for more info like other posts over the past couple years. Lot's of takers here . . and then don't ever provide much in return. Just get the info they want/need with little reciprocation. 36 posts in 7 years tells the story. Entitlement oriented I guess. Geez indeed.

Read the info in this thread. If it's too difficult to follow. . . . maybe take to the local Walmart Auto Shop and they can do it for you with the tools that they have.

Most of us find the size of wrench, torx, bits, etc to use by looking at the fastener and trying a size till one fits. Not too difficult. . . . for most.
