Coolant Leak

Afternoon everyone,

First post here, and hopefully someone here can at least point me in the direction to find my answer.....

So, my wife drives a 13 Sonic, and has a coolant leak. From what I can tell, it is coming from a small black piece of plastic near the top of the engine in the back. I have been looking on the internet for anything that shows a diagram, anything.... something so I can try to use to try to find the part I need.

Hopefully someone here has had that same issue, and can maybe even point me to the part I need. If needed, tonight I can take a photo and point to the item where it looks like it is leaking (Can see the liquid on it, and saw it drip while trying to get my hand on it....)

Here are a couple pictures... sorry for the bad view, it's harder then I thought to point in the area, aim a flashlight, and get a photo in the limited space right there.

Side note, it actually looks like it may be dripping / leaking from the spot above where I originally thought. I have the screwdriver pointing where I think its leaking....

That looks like the outlet line on the throttle body going back to the reservoir.

I just found out that my 2013 Sonic LT with 91k miles is losing coolant too. The level in the overflow tank was about 2 inches too low when I checked it today. I will check the throttle body inlet pipe for leaks. Maybe
this is another lousy quality part installed on these cars.

OK, I checked the TB coolant inlet pipe for leaks, could not find any, and I could not see or smell any coolant leak with the engine idling. I topped off the overflow tank and will monitor it. Sometime these plastic tanks develop a small leak at the seam.

How long do water pumps usually last on these cars? I could have a slow water pump leak but it is difficult to see the pump.

Can someone answer my last question about the water pump longevity? Does the pump have a weeping hole on it to see at a glance if the pump seal is leaking coolant?

Yes, I had a 2012 sedan with the 1.8. The water pump started leaking very slowly around 87k miles. Watch the coolant level, add as needed, change the pump a 100k when the timing belt is due. Note, the water pump is NOT driven by the timing belt - but I think it's pulley needs to come off to change the timing belt.

Thank you for the reply. I intend to change the timing belt soon, so I will replace the water pump too.
