DIY: Installing Paddle Shifters and Changing Steering Wheel Buttons

Thanks! Though I can't take all of the credit. Did some reading on the Gamma II Facebook page and stumbled across the wiring diagram to hook this up.

I just made the DIY with pictures so more people can have paddles!

I figured as much... that you got your hands on the wiring schematics. I was bit worried maybe the wire colors might have changed or something but obviously they hadn't.

Driving with the paddles is surprisingly fun. Then once in traffic, back to D.

Did this today. The LT switches and bezel didn't fit the camaro wheel at all, so rather than modify it all I left the camaro switches and lost cruise as mentioned. I'll fix that in the near future, I have some ideas but it may just need the switches opened up and swapped, as the harness and plugs are identical, so the difference has to be in the cruise switch only.

Has anyone found a fix for the cruise control functionality? I'm getting ready to go with Trifecta for tuning, but not having that button blows :sadbanana:

So I took it upon myself to decipher the deal with making the paddle shifters and the buttons on the shifter work together without sacrificing the shifter manual controls. Here's a quick video of it in action; I'll make a HOT-TO later. Enjoy!

How serious is it of an issue that the buttons on shifty knob don't work? once the paddles are working I cant imagine ever wanting to use the buttons again. never the less this was an awesome post and i just ordered the steering wheel.

Just picked up a leather wrapped steering wheel for around 200 from gmpartshouse hoping it works like the other steering wheel.

This is one of my favorite mods for the car. I have been running an SS leather wheel that I got off ebay for like $50. Last week I tried to upgrade to a new suede ZL1 wheel for $200 new but my order was cancelled and they said it was nationally out of stock. $250 used on ebay seems like too much money for me so I will stick with the leather.

I have never wanted to use the shifter buttons since I installed the wheel. I never really wanted to use them even before the paddles.

Ok. what is the secret to making both switches work without a toggle in between.

Hi, I'm new to forums. I got a 12 Sonic 1.8 LT and I'm trying to do this install. Could I use a 12-15 SS steering wheel instead? Or does it have to be the same one you used?

Posting on an old thread- but can’t find info elsewhere and want to check before trying this. Has anyone done this on a 2017+ Sonic?
Asking to see if the forward collision alert button still works (have only seen photos/videos of wheels that don’t have that button), or if having that button would affect the cruise control button working when wired (have a trifecta tune so need the cruise control button).

Did you parallel the controls and use additional resistors to make the resistance the same as the original single input system?

I am going to link this to my paddle shifter post on CruzeTalk in the hopes you someday reply.
