dupli-color vs. plasti-dip

I'm looking to paint my LTZ wheels black. What is everyone's opinion on the dupli-color wheel paint and the plasti-dip. Which will hold up better to wheel cleaners, heat, and brake dust?

The dupli color will, since that is its intended use. Plasti dip will begin flaking off very quickly is my guess.

Ive had the wheels on my camaro painted with plastidip for about 3 years now, they never chipped or anything, and if i wanted to i could peel the stuff off, theres no sanding or anything needed, has a nice matte finish and if you want gloss, wipe some tire shine on it.

Plastidip is easily one of the best inventions ever, use the stuff once and youre hooked

I just experiment w plastidip all the time, diff stripes, full hood, etc on my car then remove it if I don't like it

Thanks for your input, I've used the dupli-color before with good results, but I have never used the plasti-dip on anything so I'm a little nervous to try it. I painted my calipers red today so I'm hoping that black wheels with other black accents and the red calipers will really make it pop

Nothing to be nervous about.

You screw up, it peels off, and overspray can be rubbed off with your fingers, or a cloth and some polymer based compound.

Bought a can last week and haven't had a chance to use it yet due to this frickin' heatwave in the midwest. As soon as the weather breaks, I'm gonna give a try.

Go to a junk yard and pick up a used wheel for practice. Practice sanding, primiering and painting. When your comfortable, paint your wheels. You should be able to pick up a wheel for about $10-20. I'm not a fan of plastic dip on wheels. It starts to look like crap after about six months. A good paint job should last about five years if done right with good paint. Plus with paint, your color options are endless.

I used it on my daughter's wheels and was not impressed. I applied two heavy coats and once dry, I could not tell the difference between the wheel with the glossifier and the ones without it. Maybe with 4 or 5 coats????

Hmmm...well, I'll pick up a can anyway to test it out. For $10-12 it's not really a big waste if it doesn't work as expected.

True. If that's a factor, then go with the plastic dip, but otherwise your better of painting.

Ya I don't think I'll ever return to the stock finish anyways. But they have black LTZ wheels as an option so if I ever did have to argue that they were painted I can show them the black wheels that are an option
