HP Tuners Controller Unlocker timed out - car is dead

I'm running a 2013 Sonic LT hatch 6 speed manual.

As it stands my car is dead. I attempted to do my final tune from ZZP Friday night. halfway through the erase portion of the tuning process, it stalled out and the flash failed. I disconnected and reconnected everything and I get connection timed out after it requests access.

I've replaced the battery, tried to hard reset everything, but i keep getting the same message. Wondering what you guys think, and what I should do next.

when I scan for trouble codes I get two - P0603 and U0100.

Based on the above links, sounds like your ECM/PCM might be toast. Might try reaching out to ZZP to see if they can offer an ECM already flashed for your setup? Might be worth talking to them to see if they know a work around since it is their tune you are trying to install.

Sucky thing to happen, hope ZZP can help.

I sent a message to ZZP late saturday night. sounds like I might have to talk to a dealer about it. But given that I have a new intercooler, aftermarket wastegate actuator, downpipe they might not even look at it.

I've heard the downpipe is grounds for a voided warranty. Not sure about the others, though.

Hope ZZP can help you out!

well none the less I dont have a warranty so its whatever. I'm going to install my factory downpipe, if I can find replacement nuts for it. I'll likely go back to a stock tune for the winter.

I have one on order, but I'm likely going to put my factory WGA, and front cat back on and keep the stock tune unless of course I can drive it with the downpipe on a stock tune.

I understand an assumed risk doing any sort of modifying of my car, but the lack of support is bullshit, Especially with HP Tuners. I don't mean to sound like I am raging on the guys at ZZP because I am really not. They pointed me in a direction on where to go next, and its not like they could do much for me if my interface was bad.

ECU just died. Check some fuses tho. Many times the OBD2 is on one. Those two codes and a flash. Don’t go together well.

These cars have very primitive ECUs. The data transfer is laughable. But that’s every car. I have had the dealer work on my BMW and fry a few grand worth of **** while they were programming something they replaced free. Bluetooth never worked the same again. Lol.

I hate to say it but yeah theirs always a risk when you plug in.

The data transfer rate on a lot of these OBD2 protocols is just rediculous. Like dial up in 2022. But it works and is universal so nobody’s updated it.

I did check over the fuses. Basically voltage dipped durring the write process, and It was not able to recover. I got a new ECU installed and it runs perfect. I still have to send my Interface back to HP tuners to have it checked over before I flash again. My friend who works at a local Audi/VW specializing Performance shop suggested the next time I flash hooking it up to a voltage stabilizer to reduce the chance of it happening again. I do want to see if the original ECU i have on hand is saveable because it would be nice to have a back up in case this happens again. Either way, not a Huge set back, it cost me $240 for a replacement ECU flashed to my vin number.

The fun thing about this, I am back to factory with my ECU with no cats, and I am throwing no codes.

When I took high school shop class, there was talk of OBDIII coming out and that was 20+ years ago. Guess that never happened, lol!
