Looking into purchasing 15 sonic lt with 1.8. 88k miles. Will be used as work commuter, 12 to 15k a year. Auto trans. What can I expect for mpg? Can I expect this to be a reliable car for the next 5 years? Also, comes from reputable dealership that includes lifetime power training warranty if that means anything

I can tell you that our 2017 Sonic LT w/1.8L and automatic gets 27 to 28 MPG for wifes' drive to work in warmer months. It is a short 6 mile drive for her at 35 to 55 MPH. In winter, the MPG goes down to 26 or so.
It would do better with a longer drive.
When we take summer day trips in it to nearby cities we usually get 31 to 32 MPG. The best MPG we got was one trip and netted 36 MPG at 55MPH. At 70 to 72 MPH generally 30 to 31 MPG.
But as they say . . .. YMMV since each driver has different driving habits.

Also, there are a handful of "wear" parts that should be monitored.

Give me a moment and I will find the llikn for that. Yes.. many have gone over 100K miles with the 1,8L engine.

Ok. . . this thread has a lot of info as to what parts wear and usually need replacing. Note this thread covers both the Sonic with the 1.4L and 1.8L engines.
The 1.8L engine has far less common repairs.
The good news is. . . if you can DIY the common repairs amount to $300 to $400 of parts (over years of ownership) that are available online and even on Amazon.

Other than what is listed in the linked thread, It is good to drain and fill the automatic transmission fluid about every 25K to 30K miles. Easy to do and at least a double drain of about 5.25 quarts at a time will replace about 90% of the fluid.
As you read, the thermostat housing and a few other engine related plastic parts "age" and become brittle so they can fail.
If you read through the Forum you will find many owners who have are still enjoying their Sonics.

And, if your dealer lifetime warranty is any good. . .. . much should be covered for repairs. Things like the thermostat housing have a TSB that should be covered for free.
