Hello I have an 2014 sonic RS an all I'm able to get 24.4 mpg an I've very light footed with the gas pedal I have tried 89 91 an 87 I drive the highway every hardly use in town I basically use the car for work all I get is 24.4 mpg bur seems like 21 mpg tho I can't even make a week b4 I have to put gas in it please help an I only drive 68 an I get there bout 45 sec like I Said I'm light footed

How many miles are on the odometer? Maybe it's time for a tune-up. I have a 2013 LTZ and there are 104K miles on the odometer. I am pretty certain we have the same drive train set up because my Sonic has the 1.4 6-speed manual transmission. That said, I get about 35-36 mpg on the highway and about 22 in the city. I bought the car brand new and most of the maintenance was done at the dealership. Take your car to a chevy dealership, maybe they can help.

I just got not that long ago an I drive 21 mile one way to work I fill the tank on weds night an by Tues I got put gas in again my old car had very close to 300k never done any maintenance to it an I was able go for almost two weeks or until next paid day but I traded my 2001 dodge stratus in for the sonic would be getting better gas miles I went from once almost every two to twice a week

I hear what you are saying but your Stratus probably had a 17-gallon tank so if it got 25 mpg you could travel about 425 miles which means you are going to fill up every 10 days. The Sonic has a 12.2-gallon tank. If it got 30 mpg you could travel about 360 miles which means you are going to fill up every 8 days. It sounds like the car is living closely to its mpg expectations to me. I have never been able to achieve the 40 mpg that was advertised. My car normally gets between 34 - 36 mpg highway. Even if you change the spark plugs, I doubt your car is going to do much better than it's doing right now.
But I'm not filling up every 8 day I fill up on weds an only drive it to work witch only 21 mile so that only me driving to work on Thurs an Friday an I park it for Monday an by Tuesday I got to put gas in again so I'm only getting 3 day out of it is what I'm saying watch my stratus I've never changed the oil in over a year an did any type of maintenance to it got better gas mileage then it is what I'm saying so I wounding y

Wow. . have you checked under the car with it running for gasoline leaks? Does it smell from gas outside the car if you leave it running?
I assume you have the 1.4L engine. So I'd check for turbo issues, air leaks, etc that might make the engine run rich.
If there is a vacuum leak somewhere that will cause the engine to try and adjust to it and add more gas to the fuel injectors.
Also, an unhappy O2 sensor might be suspect?
thank you only thing that has been replace was the air filter on the sonic when i got it an the oil was change also so i was still getting bad gas mileages so i have tried different octanes like 89 91 an 87 then i call the dealer ship up told whats going on they told to use a fuel injector cleaner so i did i put a bottle of Lucas an nothing change so i am going to try to check the turbo an o2 sensor the i was thinking a tune up for it dose have 125k on it now but think you

It sounds like your car needs professional help. Super bad spark plugs wouldn't make it use that much fuel. Is your check engine light on>
No check engine light isn't on yea I'm a low income house so my money is limited also it y I'm asking on here find out an leads

I would think that a car that performs that poorly would have a check engine light or a mal-function code. The only thing I can suggest at this point would be to perform a full tune-up (new properly gapped spark plugs and coil pack). I am not a mechanic so after the tune up I am out of suggestions LOL.
You should also check for leaking gas on the ground when parked or let the engine run and check for gas odor or leaks.
A couple things to keep in mind. The RS has lower gearing so it will not get the same fuel econoyas the other trim levels. My first sonic was a 2012 (1.4t, 6m) and I recently purchased a 2016 RS. the taller gear stack called my other sonic to attain 40+ mpg but with my RS 35mpg seems to be the avg. How often do you reset your MPG on the vehicle? Perhaps a good starting point would be to reset while you're cruising and keep an eye on how it changes from there.

Ok ill try I don't know when that 24.4 mpg was on there I'm about to go an fill the tank now an ill try to figure out how to reset I only had the car for twos now so it's still new to me

I did VVTsolenoid both of them and changed spark plugs

Since I changed VVT solenoid I did not notice the milage went down it was averaging 31 mpg
I did get the VVT solenoids off amazon A PREMIUM

That should have said gas smell at startup
