What is the deal with Oil Filter Part Numbers?

I am confused. My 2018 Owners Manual lists GM 25195785 or AC Delco PF2263G for the oil filter part numbers.
I just checked what the auto parts store has been providing me, GM 93185674 or AC Delco PF2257G. This happens to be the same number my daughter's 2014 owners manual states.
My understanding is that PF2263G is the part number for the filter that has the check valve and should be used for the engines that have the UFI housing (brown ribbed cap). Our 2018 Sonic has the Hengst (smooth black cap) housing with the check valve as part of the housing.
I just checked an online GM parts source (not sure if I can post the name so won't) and it lists a 3rd part number GM #55594651 although from the pictures it looks like the PF2257G with the retaining barbs at the top.
At a minimum it looks like the 2018 owners manual is incorrect or at least should clearly state what filter goes with what housing. GM sure knows how to over-complicate things.

Great link, after I had my oil changed I decided to always do it myself since they left oil all over the front of the engine... Loosen oil filter cap, drain oil, have lunch, remove cap and filter.

Agreed. This is my favorite car to change oil on due to the oil filter housing draining into the pan, and the straight down drain plug that doesnt shoot a fountain sideways

55594651 is the superceded, and current part # for the Hengst filter.
It probably replaced the # listed in your owner manual.
