Spectre Intake

Didn't have the money to buy a name-brand intake yet, so I settled for this with a tune for now (pretty much the same anyway, only this one's plastic and does not come with any mounts) I had to make the bracket that goes around the second bend and onto the frame so it doesn't wobble around as much, but the filter hits a metal tube that looks like for the air conditioning. There's a rubber hose already around the part where the filter hits, it makes me wonder if the stock airbox touches it. My question here is, and I'm pretty sure I already know what the answer will be, if this is okay? I have some soft foam wrapped around it after I took these pictures and the filter only taps the tube upon startup and besides that just rests on it. I was lifting up the filter in the last picture

Pretty sure this is the correct place, and it looks like the intake belongs in your engine bay. Clean install.

I have the factory MAF housing cut off the box and a filter strapped to it and it's sitting on what ever it wants, it looks like you've done a great job and I might have to something like that with my set up.

Thanks! I might consider doing a touch-up on the MAF part where it goes into the intake. It works fine from the feel of it, but I want it to look professional. This intake kit cost me $70, $75 including the bracket I made

easier to build intake for the turbos, 1.8s are in the back of the engine and a little more complicated to just put one together, so i had to buy one from Ijen. But looks like youve done a damn good job. Filter setting on the AC line will be just fine. Wont cause any problems, just maybe a lil tapping sound here and there.

Thanks! I wrapped some foam around the AC line where the filter was resting on. There's no tapping noise at all now, so I think it will be fine, I just needed others' opinions

I like how you wrapped the AC line. My ZZP doesnt touch it but it is close. I will be doing this tomorrow! Thanks for the idea!

That doesn't look bad at all and I don't see any reason why it wouldn't function just as well as the more expensive units. Keep us updated as far as any issues.

You data log that? I cannot imagine how far of the lift is on your tune... You should really get that checked before posting this on the forums, as members could damage thier engines...

Cobalt guys did this, and found out very quickly why Injen and K&N are more $... Really quickly.

Since when is Form better than Function?

Injens design is not there for looks (even though it does look nice), it is to allow for the best optimized dynamics of air flow, during the design and testing stages. They have a Patent MR technology to yield the best possible air flow... Just saying...

Eric, when companies don't make any parts for the Sonic you will know why.

I second what Aaron two posts up said.

Intakes are even more tricky now than when the Cobalt is in production making changing to something else even more difficult.

Homemade short ram intakes for the Sonic have been even more tricky to tune. Untuned if not throwing codes than what? If you have changed nothing, than what is the point? And if you have randomly changed something, than what could be the penalty.

As Aaron said, there is a reason intake makers (add ZZP to the list as that is the intake I have) price their product as they do.

Ahh, the argument of you get what you pay for. Most of the time this is true, but this setup actually looks legit. However, looks can be deceiving. Hopefully it works as good as it looks.
