OEM Radio and Subwoofer Install

Well... I must say. This car is extremely well built. I have never had such an @$$ kicking when installing an amplifier power kit! Damn grommets are about 10mm thick and are hard to pass anything through. Then finding a 12+VDC soucre for the amplifier remote signal was crazy! Passing RCA cables were a biotch, but all is well!

Got the subs operating fine but in need of a tune. I am running 2x 10" Apline Type-S Dual Voice Coils @ 4Ω using a Pioneer Mono block amplifier (800w peak, 300w RMS). She hits pretty good and being in such a small car makes it feel like a 12" JLW7 almost!

Where did you end up pulling remote from?

I'm running a 12" JLW6 with a JL500/1 and the gain on the amp is set almost at its lowest setting to keep from drowning out the stock system.

Where did you end up pulling remote from?

I ended up following some one else's thread here and using the power window fuse. All I did was take the remote wire and squish it in between the power window fuse and the terminal. Just be careful, the little fuse and terminal are fragile.

What was required to connect the rcas to the back of the oem radio. I just picked up some subs today and have never had a reason to pull my radio till now. Also do you know if anyone had done a step by step for pulling the radio? I did a search with no luck

There are no RCA outputs on the back of the radio. You need to convert the speaker-level outputs to line-level outputs. This can be done by the amp, if it has speaker-level inputs. Or by a third-party device, such as JL Audio CleanSweep or the AudioControl LC-series of products. If you're just adding a subwoofer, you only need to access one set of speaker wires, and run them to you're converter. A large number of mono sub amps have speaker-level inputs. Check yours before buying something else.

One additional note is that all OEM headunits have equalization built into the internal amplifier, which can interfere with good clean sound. The external convertors can make adjustments for such things.
