What the crap is that in my intake?

what difference would adding a K&N filter to a stock airbox VS. a "cold air" intake like the ingen or ZZp affect the turbulance.

Are you planning on cutting off the box portion and using the tube with the MAF in it, and then putting a K&N filter on it? or just putting a K&N panel filter in the stock airbox?

i'm going to do a K&N panel filter and then remove the lower induction and run it directly down to where the right foglight should be, like others have done on the forum

No problem with doing that, I thought maybe you were just going to cut the stock air box off and slap a K&N on the end of the tube, that is not so good

Yeap, you have to be very careful with filter location and MAF placement to get a good read at the MAF and not cause turbulence.

Be careful modding the stock intake, the MAF sensor on these cars is very sensitive to turbulence ahead of it.

If you have a scan gauge, watch your long and short term fuel trims to see if they go really positive or negative after changing the filter to make sure you are not causing any turbulence.

Dave check out my build thread in my sig and tell me what you think. i'll log my fuel trim's this weekend on my trip to the bay, but for the last week or so i have been it running it just like that with no issues (no CEL, and no codes) also i got a bit better throttle response and MPG.

have to look, but a creating a box that sucks from the headlight/fenderwell seems simpler than the foglight area...guess that could creat a ram air effect if the tube was strait enough.

Also remember to change your oil earlier, less filtering=more dirt entering motor.

With the tube extension you added you are probably ok. I would still check your fuel trims to see where they are at, which was probably the reason that the car didn't want to idle well and felt sluggish without the tube extension.

i logged my trims this morning once i get them uploaded to the interwebs ill provide you a link if you wouldnt mind double checking them for me. :banana:

the log didnt want to show the trims as i hoped but i did take some screen shots of what the graph was showing me in real time.
