Godawful headrests...

Same here. I've never been tall enough to actually have my head rest against the head rest lol.

There is a release button on both legs of the rear headrests. Press both of them when lifting headrest. [Tip] Tilt rear seatbacks forward when removing rear headrests to provide clearance at roof of vehicle.

I only find my headrest to be uncomfortable if I try to actually use it 
. Personally, I find the forward cant of the headrests to be obnoxious. I would much rather they be in-line with the seatbacks. Most of the time I have the rears removed for improved visibility and/or not interfering with front seatbacks with the rearseats folded down.

the only one i leave in there when i'm alone is the driver side. i want all the visibility i can get.

6'3" here and I kind of like the way the headrest feels. I like having that support to lean my head against.
As for the rear headrests obstructing the view, I really don't notice what the problem is people have with them. They don't block any view out of my rear view window that I would NEED to see. Rear view mirrors work great and beyond that, the headrests don't block any blind spots.

I have had my Sonic for two weeks and was seriously considering taking Chevy up on its 30 day return offer just because of the headrests. I test drove the Fit, the Fiesta and the Mazda 2 and found all to be equally uncomfortable. The Mini had better seats but unfortunately it was over my budget. I hoped I could get used to the seats but there is no way for me to sit comfortably.
I just ran out and turned the head rest around, we'll see if that works.

Brings back memories of late summer 2012. The Corvette and Camaro models were out and the Sonic just beginning regular production. The forums were sparking with comments about the new for model year headrest design including pictures showing the similarity to other manufacturers including say the Acura. Then the Sonic was released and the same discussion on this board only about Sonic headrests and not Camaro or Corvette headrests.

I just parked next to a Volt and it has more "normal" headrests. What's up with that? I wonder if they are interchangeable?

I just looked at the interior views of the Volt and the Sonic on chevy.com and they should be interchangeable. Of course, the front headrests look alike in the pictures but who is to say the pictures are accurate?

If you all hate the headrests so much in your sonic then just take them out! Simple Fix. Thats what i did. I dont need no damn headrest. Ive never used a headrest im my cars and been perfectly comfortable. The rear headrests i took out almost immediately after i bought the car because, 1 i couldnt get the rear seats to fold down because of them and 2nd because they obstruct your veiw out the rear window! and the Front headrests Obstruct your veiw when trying to back out of a driveway and see if anything is coming. So i ripped them out too.
and for those going, well how the hell did you do that. Simple. Locate on top of the seats where the head rests slide into them, simple squeeze in the two tabs on each side and pull up on the headrest until its fully out of the slots! Done, No More Headrests! Problem Solved. Happy Driving!

the euro headrests fit the back seats! $200 and you have headrests that fit and that you can see out the back window.. simple fix

I must be the only one in the forum whose rear view isn't obstructed by the head rests. Hmm....
