How to clean your paint (Zaino and tons of pics)

I took a chunk of paint off the upper left corner of my trunk lid

That's a bummer. I try to remember to take my watch off before washing the car, but didn't think about taking my ring off - I guess that would be a good habit to get into also. I found a little nick in the paint on the rear passenger side pillar. I stopped by the dealership and the bodyshop guy dabbed a little touchup paint on it. Now there's a little blob there. The bodyshop guy said that if the blob didn't go down flat when the solvents had evaporated I should stop by in the morning and they would polish it flat so I guess I'm heading back there tomorrow.

Just a quick update - I did go back to the dealer the next morning. They tried to polish the little bump of paint smooth, but it just pretty much came off. They redid the touchup with a much smaller dab of paint. It looks much better than the little white speck that was there before. Now after a thorough Zaino treatment involving claybar and 2 coats of Z2 Pro with ZFX the Sonic looks awsome. This is definitely the cleanest paint I've ever had on a car. The other cars I've bought, I could feel the claybar picking up junk when I first cleaned the car with it. With the Sonic it felt smooth to begin with and the clay really didn't do too much.

I'll try to upload some more photos once I can get it clean again - we've been getting occasional rain which is really wierd for this time of year in SoCal.

yea i think its funny how easy to crack some people are. It takes a lot to get me pissed. Im all for debate but personal attacks from people over the internet only tells me one thing, that someone is a little insecure about certain body parts

Freedom of speech. I can say what I like, in any format, and mango can say what he wants. There is no emotion, no anger, just a reminder to mango that what goes around comes around. He may not be so smug or quick to give his negative opinion next time. That's it,..that's all. If you think there is more, your mistaken. I just have no time for people like that, whether it's in real life, or online, and will always call them out.

Ok. To get back to the thread topic, I finally got some photos of the car clean on a sunny day. This is about a week after my Zaino treatment:

I used the Z-2 Pro on the wheels too - I get almost no brake dust sticking to the wheels.
I used Z-16 on the tires. I also used the Z-16 on the black plastic between the hood and the windshield and on the black plastic surface undernead the front of the hood (between the headlights - I looks really nice now when the hood is open.

I used the Z-2 Pro on the wheels too - I get almost no brake dust sticking to the wheels.
I used Z-16 on the tires. I also used the Z-16 on the black plastic between the hood and the windshield and on the black plastic surface undernead the front of the hood (between the headlights - I looks really nice now when the hood is open.

looking sweet man. i too use the z-2pro on the wheels makes washing much easier

Looks great! Very good point about using z2 on the wheels.

What are you silk using to protect the matte textured plastic where the B pillar is? I've tried a couple of products but not sure what is recommended.

Hahaha, matte textured plastic you say, that ain't nothing but a cheap piece of matte black tape to mimic the real black plastic b-pillar piece (trim) on just about every other vehicle. You got fooled just like me, as soon as I learned this on here I peeled it off, but my car's already black so it didn't matter. I don't know what Chevy was thinking on this one lol!

Hey my car looks this^ good with just a basic car wash or wipe down-see:
I don't need no stinkin' Zaino or expensive cleaners lmao!

Hahaha, matte textured plastic you say, that ain't nothing but a cheap piece of matte black tape to mimic the real black plastic b-pillar piece (trim) on just about every other vehicle.

I actually like the look of the flat black there - didn't realize it was stick-on layer, but I still like it. It doesn't show finger prints very easily. I used Z-2 on that when I did the rest of the car. I figured Z-2 works pretty well on the black plastic parts in my past experience, so I figured I'd try it on the B-pillar area. I think it looks great. It didn't really change the appearance before and after application, but water sheets off and nothing sticks to it, so I can tell it's protected. I used the Z-2 on pretty much all the external plastic parts including around the side mirrors.
