Poor shift quality

Hi everyone,
I have a 2013 1.4 auto. The transmission shifts up just fine but on the way back down it seems to get rough when shifting between 3-2 and 2-1 when on the way back down. I am not actually sure if these are the actual gears, it just seems that way. The transmission also seems to get confused in heavy traffic. It will hunt sometimes and will not be at all smooth about it.

The short story is that the transmission is not too smooth between gears on the way back down and is downright annoying. Makes it feel as if I am going over bumpy roads when the road is smooth. Does anyone else have this, or has anyone had this and fixed it? If you fixed it, what did you have done?

I am also wondering if there is any new shift program out from GM that can solve this. I just got done having the transmission fixed due to some sort of shaking when it sat at a light. That issue is gone and now I am on to the next one.

Once this gets solved I have no other gripe with the car.

Seems like the car is too quick to shift up and then when it has to go back down in traffic it gets screwed up. Great for open roads, bad for traffic.

I have a 2012 1.4t auto...you should have GM reflash it or something cause I've never had that problem, just mooshy shifts..but the tune fixed that

Kind of curious what the tune did for your shifting. I really don't care too much about the shift on the way up but the way down is killing me! Are you telling me that you never had any issue with hard shifts as you slow down? Or is it that the tune fixed it?

I have a 2012 1.4L turbo. 6spd AT with the exact same symptoms; it's annoying as hell. There's been many other posts here complaining of the same problem.

I know the exact problem you speak of and I have a 2012 LS Auto 1.8 and I was able to solve the issue by using manual mode and down shifting manually then I put it back into drive and from there the shift points are adapted and makes for a smoother up and down shift.

I have a 12 1.4t auto, it does the same thing stock or tuned. Depending on how you drive it will learn the style of driving you do for the upshift not sure on downshifting. It doesn't bother me as I got used to it, I assumed it was programmed like that to help slowing down or something.
Curious to know if its a problem or not

I have a 1.4L A/T: The up shifts are good, at times it will hunt. My guess is the trans is looking for the best gear for FE.

The down shifts don't bother me. It feels no different than when I would engine brake my manual. I think much of this deals with the 6 gears, gearing, and since you aren't shifting it the shifts seem alarming. Again, FE...

I would trade the auto-stick function for a coast/down shift function. You could hypermile a bit with the auto. Could that be programmed?

Just thought I would put my 2 cents in here. I have been having issues with my car lately. I have been in several loaner cars. I have been in a 2012 Sonic LTZ 1.8 auto, a 2012 Cruze LT (not sure of the details, didn't care), and now a 2013 Malibu LTZ Eco. I would like to say, as annoying as it is, it may be completely normal. All 3 vehicles have driven and felt exactly the same way. All standard from the dealer. I think once I get mine back I'm gonna tune it because it is annoying.

The current automatic trans trend by almost all makes suggest it is the current trend of econo shift programming.

That's the downside of automatic transmissions. Its interpereting what u want mainly off of throttle position and road speed. At a certain combination it determines whether its going to short shift for economy or rev out for POWWAA and with so many gears if your not dead set on onw throttle position it may. Have trouble deciding what gear you want... no clue about the downshifting. This is some guessing on my part as I have a manual but I base it off of previous expierences, my history with working on them and insight off of what the complaints are.
