Anyone else install an HID kit?

Im not understanding which solution is the one i need. i have my hids installed lows and highs. each set has a relay installed on them. My drls are still not working during the day. I want to fix the problem and i want my DRLs to continue working like they are supposed to automatically. so what should i do add another relay to the low beams?

im sorry but im not understanding something. you want hid on in the day time. just wait til gm offers the right kit for the car so that you wont set your car on fire. like my friend did.

Same here. I'm kinda just waiting until someone with a complete working setup posts a full write up. I wont be doing it for a few months anyways.

HIDs sizes depend on what type of bulbs you want aswell from 3000k-12000k.

You need your two ballasts which you can get in many different assortments such as digital or slim. And the right wattage from 35-55w

Then you need a heavy duty relay.

Keep in mind all of this is needed for just one beam
Either high beam or low beam which ever you chose or both. Therefore for both hi/lo HIDs you need to complete kits..

You can follow my build or message me for further info. Not going far in depth here.

So if I am reading this right, you need a kit for low beams and a kit for high beams if you want HID's? Seams simple enough lol. Talk about trying to find room for four ballasts. Wait, six! I have fogs too

I have yet to find a bright enough halogen bulb though. Anybody know any super bright halogen bulbs? Like extremely bright.

Great bulbs can deff see a difference with them. They have new ones called ZXE or something similar supposed to be just as bright but have a whiter color that resembles HID lights.

I think I will repost this link: theretrofitsource.com as this site has a wealth of info and several complete kits. In addition it has relay harnesses not only included in its own kits but that will work with the cheaper "ebay" alternatives to reduce flickering.

If you check out their site and are concerned that their $250 to $400 kit prices are high, the OEM HIDs for the Camaro are available (again for the Camaro) to upgrade a 5th gen not originally equipped for about $1400 plus installation. Since no Sonic came with an OEM HID there is no OEM upgrade kit for us.

any pictures of the location of ballasts, and where/how you went through the headlight assembly.

is the ballast small enough to hang out in the headlight assembly? if it is, it's always possible to splice into the harness before the connection to the headlight to add the relay system, then the whole relay harness wouldnt have to be going in and out of the headlight.

just attach the relay inline with the headlight wires, and then the output of the relay going back into the wire harness to the headlights and you got solid 12v coming from battery, controlled by the factory headlight switch...using factory wires (except grounding the relay and providing the additional power from battery)

i really dont want to drill holes in the plastic housing to my headlights...that's just asking for problems with the humidity in this area. i guess i could go through the little cap/access port. cld always get one of those cheap...

yes very true. and sad to say that the h11 suck in the first place which is about the only reason i am looking into hid lighting. at bmw they barely lasted 2 years, and they're expensive even at walmart for the cheapo brand. my x's van had them and we were constantly replacing them...every 3-4 months. and they were over 20 a piece.

i just wish some hid kit maker would style the bulb to the exact factory bulb dimensions and not the standard HID bulbs.

Not at all trying to get people to choose halogen over HID. HID's are better in every way. I was only giving the chart for color temp comparison.

I actually already bought a set of the ULTRAs that are on the way so I'll see how those work out. I'll be upgrading to HID when I pick up my RS though.
