Initial thought was maybe the button isn't working but after re-reading that doesn't seem to be it. Check to make sure the filter is tight and everything else is in place. It's definitely strange behavior.

2013 1.8L LS with 146k. Bought it brand new. It's a base model so roll down windows and no cruise. Probably the two biggest regrets lol
