82 Code won’t reset

Hello, I have a 2013 Sonic. The oil life was kaput. Changed the oil and filter. Followed the instructions for resetting the code 82. When I press and hold the set/car button, instead of clearing, it immediately switches to the odometer display. There is no beep. It remains error code 82 every time I start the car. I have tried this dozens of times. I’ve also tried pumping the gas pedal while in the on position. Nothing works.

PS: I can reset the average mileage by holding down the set/clr button, but when trying to clear the 82 code, it just switches to the odometer reading.

Initial thought was maybe the button isn't working but after re-reading that doesn't seem to be it. Check to make sure the filter is tight and everything else is in place. It's definitely strange behavior.
