0-60 with Trifecta tune

Finally got a decent run. My UG does not read the 60 number in cold weather. Don't know why. 2015 sedan; 1.4T; 6M Trifecta tune installed in January. Bad 0-30 time but the 30-60 is very strong. I've seen around 2 sec for the 0-30 time but I question if that was real. I'm very happy with this. Best stock time was 7.72 seconds with a 2.4 second 0-30.

Has your UG mount location worked well ? I have mine in a custom credit are slot mount but and am wondering if the by the pillar would be better.

The only time is screwed up was on a really cold morning - around 4 or so - and the suction cup let go. Took some time to get things warmed up again to make it stick.

Impressive time. I checked my HP Tuners log last night and my best time was a 7.6. My problem is I normally short shift second so I have an extra shift in my 0-60. The 7.6 was one I stayed in 2nd but didn't get a good launch.

I see 22 psi from time to time. If I can figure out the launch, I should be good for a couple of tenths less.

I'm pretty amazed by this. The car felt a whole lot stronger after the tune and this confirms it. I had a super 1-2 shift on this one and that helped the 30-60 time.

I've been out of town on business.

I could try and do a video but my guess is it will be sub-par and I'll probably crash the vehicle trying to do it. I'm not smart enough to fake the UG and that's what I got. Pretty much in line with what I was seeing even when the UG wasn't giving me everything. The second gear pull is really where the big time savings were and I can feel the difference between stock and hot.

I question the 2 second 0-30 times I saw because:

1. If I did it again that would put the 60 time at 6.2 seconds and the car isn't THAT strong, and

2. The gauge was somehow malfunctioning because it wouldn't show the 30-60 times so the 30 time it was showing was suspect.

I know the 2.4 0-30 is valid. That was done stock and led to the 7.7 second 60 run. With the tune I was seeing almost a whole second off the 30-60 time so something like a 6.8 - 7.0 second run seems reasonable.

I ask because from several videos I see on youtube and even my own car, I see a very consistent run of 0-60 in the 10s. No lower than that, whether automatic or manual, hatchback or sedan. Then I've also seen some people with Trifecta and it goes down to the 8s. Mine for example ran 8.5s

So to see that it runs 0-60 with Trifecta in the 6s, is quite impressive. Make me think that either the car has something else done to it than Trifecta, or maybe (I'm assuming you have manual) you run it starting at 2nd gear, at what RPM you switch gears, etc... or could it be maybe the UG is just not working right?

But anyways, just curious.

10 second 0-60 seems pretty slow actually, Chevy itself is quoting an official 0-60 time of less than 8 seconds. I'm sure that's with a cup of fuel and a lightweight professional driver.

So getting into the low 7's with a tune doesn't sound too difficult, although I imagine getting into the 6's would be more challenging and would probably take a couple bolt-ons in addition to a tune.

And this is not a comment on aslap, I believe him, it's more just thinking out loud.

My car is a 1.4T & consistently does mid 7's. I'll have to put my ultraguage back in this car & get an exact time again.

Back again after traveling

I do question some of the UG numbers at times. Like I said, at one point, I had a 0-30 time of under two seconds and I have NEVER gotten anywhere close to that time again.

No other mods to the car, 6 manual. I had dozens of runs stock in the 7.7 - 7.8 range so I do tend to believe that. And, yes, I did have maybe 8 oz of fuel in the thing and was probably getting a tailwind boost when I made these runs but they are what they are.

The Trifecta tune really muscled the thing up especially in second gear. I consistently saw a 30 -60 time drop of 0.8 - 0.9 seconds and that happened mainly in second gear. I always start in 1st. From what I gather, the RS gears are a bit shorter and 60 needs a shift to third. I can get 60 right at the top of second.

Anyway, the drop in the 60 time seems reasonable based on the consistent drop I saw from 30-60. The car is fiendishly hard to launch properly. If you just drop the hammer, the front end hops and jumps around like a scalded frog and I'm afraid to break something. Or else the tires light up and the 30 time is in the 3+ second range. I just had one of those a few days back and did 60 in 7.6 - so again the 30-60 time was in the 4.5 second range, well below the 5.4 - 5.7 I always saw when stock.

For the 6.85, I hit it about as perfect as I could. The 30 wasn't great but I made the shift in the blink of an eye and caught the RPM's right where they needed to be to eliminate any stumble after the shift.

a 10 second 60 run for the car sounds really slow. My 2006 Aveo would do that!

Well, then I guess it must be the manual transmission that makes that much difference. Mine's automatic.
I bought the car brand new, 0 miles, so no way there could be issues. Car's a Sedan 1.4T. Automatic, but shifting 6-speed the car didn't do less than 10s.
Which is why it surprised me that people getting 7s from stock.

Once I put an intake, exhaust and Trifecta, it ran 8.5s.

Ok, I know why you're not getting faster times. To get the fastest launch with turbo automatics you need to brake torque it to build boost before you launch.

Do this: left foot firmly on the brake, with your right foot put the pedal to the metal and hold so you're holding both pedals. While you're doing this boost will build, after a second or two when boost is as high as it'll go slip your left foot off the brake and hold on.

I first learned about this technique back in '91 or so when my neighbor got a new GMC Syclone, remember those turbo AWD compact trucks that were embarrassing Ferraris? Yeah, that thing launched like a two stroke dirt bike, it was crazy.

I tried launching like that in my step brother in law's Buick Grand National and just ended up leaving two black marks about a quarter mile long. Spinning your tires isn't the fastest way to get going but it was so much fun.

Yeah, a friend that told me a while back to rev the engine before taking off, that way it'll take 1st gear less time to reach its highest rpm since its already halfway there.

Another thing I've been thinking, I timed it with a stopwatch going by the car's speedometer, but you guys use your own device. Could it be more accurate? Is just that I also question the accuracy of the UG, and the car's digital speedometer, it's the reason why I wanted to see video of it, because from what I see on other videos on youtube they are running very much what I run, around 10s stock.

I always distrust digital speedometers from cars because it never felt as if it catches up quick enough as to how fast is truly going. A needle speedometer always seemed to be a lot more accurate (why change what's not broken)

Who knows, maybe what I need to install is a needle speedometer and get a more accurate result. Things are expensive though.

You're going faster than you think

No way can you get an accurate time using a stopwatch and the speedo. You'll be way off. The Sonic speed is read from the driver's side rear tire. Every time I've passed one of the automatic signs that tells your speed, I'm always right on. Get or borrow an Ultragauge or something else that plugs into the OBD port and you'll get the real answer.

I've tried two different phone programs. One told me that I did 60 in 5.5 seconds. The other told me 12.
